A prerequisite of credentials:

Naranjo is a large proponent of the human growth movement in the late 1900s
Naranjo was a trained Berkeley Psychiatrist
Naranjo practiced the idea of the subtypes mainly outside of the US before 2004 because
he thought that people in the US were not actually interested in using enneagram for it's
original purpose; growth
Naranjo studied and investigated the subtypes for decades before his presentation in
2004

Enneagram Subtypes are the mix of the primary instinctual drives with the emotional drives of
the enneagram type.

Naranjo-ian subtypes are important because:

1. Subtypes can have significantly different, even contradictory, paths of growths


2. Subtypes describe the core types with substantially more nuance, which is important in
order to understand the enneagram
