Glacier National Park


● Glacier National Park has over 700 miles of hiking trails.

● Glacier was established as a national park on May 11, 1910.

● The park was later established as Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in 1932.

● The park contains a total of 762 lakes:

o Out of 762 lakes, 131 of them have been named.

o The remaining 631 lakes remain unnamed.

● The largest lake in the park is Lake McDonald spanning a total of 6,823 acres at 9.4 miles

long, 1.5 miles wide and 464 feet deep.

● The park is 1,583 square miles with 175 mountains and 26 remaining glaciers.

● The highest mountain in the park is Mount Cleveland at 10,448 feet.

● The park contains a large variety of fish, mammals, birds and plants.

o In Glacier National Park there are more than 24 species of fish.

o Throughout the park visitors can see over 70 species of mammals.

o 276 documented species of birds have been spotted in Glacier.

o Over 1,000 vascular plants and over 800 non-vascular species of plants have been

documented throughout the park.
