Growing up, every summer, my brother and I would go spend two weeks with my aunt

and her family in Fortuna. My aunt, who is an agricultural teacher, is one of the reasons I

wanted to pursue a career in agriculture. They live on a big farm which gave me a great

opportunity to learn about animals, gardening, and hard work.

When I started High School, I didn't know what agriculture really had to offer or how it

would change my future. Freshman year, I got involved in FFA where I competed in career

development events. As a sophomore, I wanted to be more involved so I joined leadership and

a soil competition team. Being in leadership opened up a vast amount of opportunities

including; showing a pig at Tehama County Fair, competing in speaking competitions, horse

judging, and chairman for the community service committee. All of these events led to my

decision that Agriculture is the right path for me. During my senior year, I was appointed

Greenhand FFA Officer. Being an officer gave me the opportunity to teach and learn that that’s

what I love. My job was to help underclassmen and teach them about FFA. I helped guide them

to understand why agriculture is such an important part of today's world and introduce them to

everything we do in our FFA chapter.

My plan is to graduate Cal Poly with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science with a

minor is Education. Im hoping to minor in other things, but im still not sure what exactly those

will be. Once I graduate I plan on getting my masters degree why I student teach. After I finish

that, I hope to get a job in northern california or out of state. This is my plan, but you never know

where life will take you.
