Experiment-1
Introduction to Cyber Security. Why we need Cyber Security, importance of Cyber Security
and Advantages & Disadvantages of Cyber Security.
Cyber Security.:
Cybersecurity is the protection of Internet-connected systems, including hardware, software, and
data from cyber-attacks. It is made up of two words one is cyber and other is security. Cyber is
related to the technology which contains systems, network and programs or data. Whereas security
related to the protection which includes systems security, network security and application and
information security. It is the body of technologies, processes, and practices designed to protect
networks, devices, programs, and data from attack, theft, damage, modification or unauthorized
access. It may also be referred to as information technology security.

Why We Need Cyber Security.:

The objective of Cybersecurity is to protect information from being stolen, compromised or
attacked. Cybersecurity can be measured by at least one of three goals is CIA.

• Protect the CONFIDENTIALITY of data.

• Preserve the INTEGRITY of data.
• Promote the AVAILABILITY of data for authorized users.

1. Confidentiality.:
Another term for confidentiality would be privacy. Company policies should restrict
access to the information to authorized personnel and ensure that only those authorized
individuals view this data. The data may be compartmentalized according to the security
or sensitivity level of the information. For example, a Java program developer should not
have to access to the personal information of all employees. Furthermore, employees
should receive training to understand the best practices in safeguarding sensitive
information to protect themselves and the company from attacks. Methods to ensure
confidentiality include data encryption, username ID and password, two factor
authentications, and minimizing exposure of sensitive information.

Tools for Confidentiality.:

EXPERIMENT No.1 August 26, 2020

2. Integrity.:
Integrity is accuracy, consistency, and trustworthiness of the data during its entire life cycle.
Data must be unaltered during transit and not changed by unauthorized entities. File
permissions and user access control can prevent unauthorized access. Version control can be
used to prevent accidental changes by authorized users. Backups must be available to restore
any corrupted data, and checksum hashing can be used to verify integrity of the data during
transfer.

Tools for Integrity.:

3. Availability: Availability is the property in which information is accessible and

modifiable in a timely fashion by those authorized to do so. It is the guarantee of reliable
and constant access to our sensitive data by authorized people.

EXPERIMENT No.1 August 26, 2020

Tools for Availability:

• Physical Protections
• Computational Redundancies

Importance of Cyber Security:

Cyber security is an important affair because of the amounts of data that is being collected and
stored over the internet and servers of the organizations. Several significant militaries, medical,
government, corporate, industries and financial organizations depend on the data stored on their
servers. This data is one of the most valuable assets of the organization as an organization takes
years to garner this data. Moreover, all the sensitive data is stored on the servers which when
compromised can prove to be a crucial threat. It can further have negative consequences as the
data might fall prey in the hands of a person or organization with false intentions. Thus,
safeguarding the data is important and that feat can only be achieved by implementing the
concepts of cyber security.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Cyber Security:

Advantages: -

Cyber security as an exercise is highly advantageous. along with saving the users from possible
cyber-attacks it also warns it from potential risks. The following is a list of cyber security benefits.

• It protects the personal and sensitive data of an individual and organizations from being
stolen.
• The main advantage that could be achieved with the utilization of these effective cyber-
security mechanisms is the protection of networks from various false nodes which try to
gain unauthorized access to the network.
• The most important aspect is that it enhances the security of the system in cyberspace.
• It eliminates the risk of computers being hacked, thus mitigating the risk of system freezes
and crashes
• It enhances overall security mechanisms of the business with the use of an improved
information framework and results in smooth business management activities.
• It identifies the vulnerabilities and weak entities that can aid an attacker to attack the system
or the server. These vulnerabilities upon identification can help the teams to secure the
systems in order to prevent such attacks from happening.
• It protects the system against spyware, virus, malicious codes, trojan horses, worms, and
several other unwanted infectious programs.
• It gives the much-wanted privacy to a user and the organizations as it protects their personal
information which might hurt their sentiments if leaked.
• With the incorporation of effective cyber security mechanisms, the stolen data could be
easily restored.

Disadvantages: -

EXPERIMENT No.1 August 26, 2020

So as to give a powerful digital security component inside an association, it is required to adjust all
its endeavors through its information system. Following are some of the potential challenges which
the organization might encounter while incorporation of effective cyber security mechanisms
within the organization. These are clarified as follows:
• Cyber security can be a costly affair; as highly trained professionals are required.
• Latest security patches must be updated regularly with the latest security definitions, which
is difficult to keep up with.
• In order to keep the system secure, a firewall must be configured appropriately, but it is a
difficult task. As several security measures must be implemented appropriately, if done
incorrectly it can even block legitimate users out of the system.
• Providing remote access is an essential element in the business, yet it can become a loophole
for the business as the attacker may gain unauthorized access through this network.
• AI expansion is a challenge for cybersecurity, as robots are being developed in a manner to
protect cyber-attacks from happening.
• Interconnectedness with the advent of IoT is a challenge for cybersecurity, as if security of
one device is compromised, it can easily self-replicate to all the connected devices.
• Identity management could be another issue that the business may confront as it might
happen that the business has no clear access provisions inside the business due to which
anybody can have access to the system.
• The most challenging factor in cyber security is the regularly advancing nature of security risks.
Due to this, the association may not be able to adopt any proactive strategies for shielding its
information from different digital ambushes.

Introduction to cisco packet tracer software and describe all the tools.

Cisco Packet Tracer as the name suggests, is a tool built by Cisco. This tool provides a
network simulation to practice simple and complex networks. The main purpose of Cisco
Packet Tracer is to help students learn the principles of networking with hands-on experience
as well as develop Cisco technology specific skills. Since the protocols are implemented in
software only method, this tool cannot replace the hardware Routers or Switches.
Interestingly, this tool does not only include Cisco products but also many more networking
devices.
Cisco Packet Tracer is a fancy e-learning tools are made by Cisco that will
simulate the workings of a network based on the topology and configuration imposed by the
users exactly like the original. When you open Packet Tracer, by default you will be
presented with the following interface:

This initial interface contains ten components. If you are unsure of what a
particular interface item does, move your mouse over the item and a help
balloon will explain the item.

NOTE: - Now, when you start sharing packets it will always choose shortest path to send packets
which save time but sometime it chooses longest path to send packets because of damage in
wire.
For example: In diagram as you can see, switch 0 has orange dot in wire which represent
the damage/error in wire. And in this example, we will be sharing packets with PC0 to PC2
as you can clearly see the shortest path to send packets is PC0>PC2 but because of damage
in wire it will choose longest path to transfer the packets which will be
PC0>PC1>PC43>PC2. It will take extra time as compare to shortest path.

CONCLUSION: - this ring topology is that it will transfer data even if there is single damage in wire
but only one not more than one.

Experiment-15
Aim: - Create two different networks Wired and Wireless and connect each network with
different router, set RIP between them and share data packet securely.

To implement this experiment we need Router, End devices, Switches & Access Point-PT.

Step1: - Open CISCO Packet Tracer.

Step2: - Go to End devices and select any End devices, minimum seven devices (One PCs and
One Laptops) are required for this network. (take end devices for both wired and wireless
connection such as – Laptop’s, Tablet, Printer, Smartphone.)
Step3: - Go to Network devices and select switch, minimum two switches are required for the
connection of this network.
Step4: - Go to Network devices and select Router, minimum two routers are required for the
connection of this network.
Step5: - Now go to Connections and select automatically choose connection type and join two
End devices with switches. Join Router with the switch and another Router with other
switch Join a Switch and Access Point-PT together. Select Fiber optic wire and join
both the Routers together as shown in above image.

Now Configure router of Wired Network

Step6: - Click on the Router of the Wired Network. Go to Config. > Interface > FastEthernet0/0
> type Gateway address (192.168.2.1) in address column and click on subnet mask it
automatically fills the address. You can refer the image for to follow the step.
