COURSE SYLLABUS
YEAR LEVEL 3

I. COURSE TITLE: PEDIATRICS 2 (MED 316 A and B)

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course provides the third-year medical students with the entire scope of
child health and the common diseases of all pediatric age groups from newborn,
childhood, and adolescence. The students will be able to determine the etiology,
pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and prevention of these common pediatric
conditions. Teaching strategies consist of lectures, small group discussions, video
showing and interactive sessions.

At the end of this course students should be able to construct a thorough history
and physical examination and manage pediatric diseases.

1st Semester: 42 hours Lectures

Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Family Medicine, Pediatrics 1

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, the third-year student must be able to:

1. Skillfully perform a comprehensive and organized pediatric history. (SLO1, SLO2, SLO4,
SLO6, SLO7, SLO9)
2. Determine the anatomic, physiologic, and pathophysiologic basis of each system based
pediatric problems. (SLO1, SLO2, SLO3, SLO5, SLO6, SLO7, SLO9)
3. Develop an initial expression with a set of differential diagnosis based on a patient
history and physical examination findings. (SLO1, SLO2, SLO3, SLO4, SLO6, SLO8,
SLO9)
4. Apply an appropriate patient centered diagnostic and therapeutic plan of management
for a given pediatric patient. (SLO1, SLO2, SLO3, SLO4, SLO6, SLO9)

> Systematic cardiac examination using inspection, palpation, and
auscultation

UROLOGY AND > Presenting signs and symptoms of the ten (10) most common

> Epidemiologic basis of the common renal syndromes.
> Laboratory work-up for the 10 common renal syndromes

through appropriate workups

group
> Diagnostic examinations for cutaneous problems and interpret

> Specific defects of: Phagocytic disorders, T cell disorders, B cell
