The standard I choose is 7 (g), which is to understand the content and content standards

and how they are organized. The artifact I choose for this standard is a lesson plan from my

African history unit, specifically the section on African beginnings. I feel that this lesson plan

fits this standard because I understand the content of African history and start from the beginning

and work my way to the present. The standards I choose for this lesson are: 7-W1.1.1 Explain

how and when communities populated major regions of the Eastern Hemisphere, 7 – W1.1.2

Explain what archaeologists have learned about Paleolithic and Neolithic patterns of living in

Africa, Western Europe, Asia and 7-H1.2.1 Explain how historians use a variety of sources to

explore the past. These standards reflect that understanding ancient African history is essential to

the context of learning about world history. In this lesson, we cover ancient humanoid origins in

Africa and how we developed into humans today. We will cover old migration patterns that lead

to some great kingdoms of the time. And why ancient civilizations settled where they did. This

lesson starts off the unit and will have various teaching methods to make it more engaging for

students, instead of lecture-based teaching.
