94 YEAR OLD LAKSHMI VILAS BANK :
PART OF HISTORY NOW
In the last two years we have seen major
disruptions in the Banking industry. After the
debacle of PMC Bank and YES Bank, it is the
94 year old Lakshmi Vilas Bank which col-
lapsed under heavy load of NPAs. The Bank
with pre independence lineage lost its identity
on 27th November, 2020 after its merger with
the Indian subsidiary of Singapore based DBS
Bank. The Government has also declared that
the person's responsible for the mess in LVB
be punished. The Government declared, "The
people who start banks, commit fraud and
bring them on the verge of collapse should be
punished. Together with this, there should be
an improvement in the RBI oversight mecha-
nism."
The Bank was riddled with declining net-
worth, with continuous losses over the past
three years, eroding the Bank's net worth. The
Bank's Non-Performing Assets stood at 25.4%
of its advances as of June 2020, as against
17.3% in 2019, due to which it was unable to
raise capital to shore up its balance sheet. The
troubled Bank with 566 branches and 974
ATMs, saw its capital adequacy ratio fall to
0.17% in June 2020 as against the minimum of
9%. The Bank had Rs.13,827 crore in out-
standing loans and deposits worth Rs.21,443/-
crore as at the end of the financial year 2019-
20.
The Bank has not been able to raise ade-
quate capital to address the issues and was
also experiencing continuous withdrawal of de-
posits and low levels of liquidity. There were

serious governance issues
in recent years which led
to deterioration in the per-
formance of the Bank. The
functioning of the Bank
along many such Banks
was under scrutiny as A N Krishna Murthy
most of them do not have General Secretary
strong promoters making them targets for mer-
gers.
LVB was founded by a group of business-
men in 1926 in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The Bank
rose to prominence lending to small business-
es. LVB's mission was to cater to the financial
needs of the people in and around the textile
city of Karur. The customers were mainly small
and medium businesses involved in various
trading businesses, industries and agriculture.
Over the years when the growth tilted
from retail to Corporate book, things began to
change. Around four to five years ago, LVB
took an aggressive shift from retail, MSME and
MSE loans to high ticket corporate loans. Bulky
corporate loans helped the bank grow its ad-
vances portfolio in no time but dragged it down
when the wind turned against it. The expected
recovery in the economy was not happening.
Every industry segment, except a few top com-
panies in each, was struggling to show results.
Many of LVB's corporate bets proved wrong. It
has now around Rs 3,000 to Rs.4,000 crore
problematic corporate loans. The tiny bank was
neck deep in over a dozen sectors such as in-
frastructure, power, real estate, construction
and textiles etc. It was the Corporate loan book
that led to the down fall of the Bank. YES Bank

failure was also because of the exposure to the
risky and highly leveraged corporate sector.
Simultaneously, the NPAs were zooming
without control. In September 2019 the RBI put
the Bank under the Prompt Corrective Action
(PCA) framework. At that time LVB's gross
NPAs were already over 17%. The losses had
mounted to Rs.894 crore in 2018-19. Added to
this negative return on assets for two years
and insufficient capital, the Bank had qualified
in all ways for RBI to crack the whip.
From this point LVB never recovered. The
Bank's business has shrunk over the year. To-
tal business stood at Rs.37,595 crore at the
end of September 2020, as against Rs.47,115
crore at the end of September 2019.
Two attempts to merge the Bank with In-
dia Bulls Housing Finance and Crix Group also
did not materialise. The LVB episode started
unfolding after the RBI and Banks led by State
Bank of India bailed out fraud hit YES Bank in
March 2020. Ultimately the Bank was put un-
der moratorium by the RBI for 30 days effective
from 6 pm on 16th November till 16th Decem-
ber, 2020. Shortly after announcing the clamp
down on the Bank, RBI announced a draft
scheme if amalgamation for merging the trou-
bled Bank with DBS Bank. The RBI has made
it clear that the interests of Depositors will be
taken care of fully and employees numbering
more than 4000 will continue in the merged
Bank with the same terms and conditions of
service. However, the big shocker for inves-
tors came when the draft scheme said, all equi-
ty capital of the Bank will be written off, as part
of the amalgamation. It is interesting to note
that the DBS had approached the Bank for a
50% stake buy in 2018 for at least Rs.100 per

share. Now DBS is getting the bank practically
free of cost. DBS is infusing Rs.2,500 crore up-
front. But the bad loan story is not over yet, as
many fear the skeletons would tumble out of
the closets in the months to come. In the
meanwhile Sri T N Manoharan, the former Non
-Executive Chairman of Canara Bank has been
appointed as LVB's administrator.
The majority Officers' and Employees'
Unions in the Banking industry i.e AIBOC and
AIBEA have strongly opposed the amalgama-
tion as it is not in the national interest and de-
manded the consolidation with any Public Sec-
tor Bank. The Unions have felt that the amal-
gamation is a ploy to provide entry of foreign
banks in a big way. The Indian Banking Sector
provides huge opportunity for growth, hence
the foreign banks have been looking at inor-
ganic route to expand their presence in India.
The Unions have expressed the apprehension
that the unbridled entry of foreign banks would
lead the country to economic slavery and plun-
der of resources. But the Government has clar-
ified that Public Sector Banks saddled with
stressed loans and requiring huge fund infu-
sion themselves are not in a position to take
over the LVB.
We hope other old generation private sec-
tor banks which have a long and glorious past,
which have been rendering yeomen service in
the area of social Banking, will learn the les-
sons from the LVB fiasco and attune them-
selves to the changing paradigms in Banking
arena. We wish all our members and the mem-
bers of their family merry Christmas and a very

KERALA—19.10.2020 :
A Meeting of CBROA office bearers, Ker-
ala state committee Virtual meeting was held
on 19.19.20. Mr.Nandakumar Vice Chairmam
presided over the meeting in the absence the
Chairman. Mr.G.R.Nair our AGS in his inaugu-
ral adress briefed about
our bank circular about insurance scheme and
membership mobilization. Shri
AP.Padmanabhan (Treasurer) dealt about the
Benefits of policies, viz., different slabes,40%
premium reduction in the case of family pen-
sioners/single pensioners, various top up
slabs. He felt it was one of the best schemes
in the market, He detailed out the claim set-
tllement procedure and urged to secure GST
reduction and including dependents of pen-
sioner as mentioned in the Pension Scheme
under the scheme. Shri V . Padmanabhan,
CC member exhorted the members to to
evolve strategies suitable to each area so that
maximum non members are enlisted. Our tar-
get before the next coference should be 1000.
Mr.Sudhakaran, RS, felt that an online meeting
of the CC should be conducted by central lead-
ership, CBROA and SBROA should ibe nte-
grated as we can not keep aloof for long. Shri
K.krishna kumar felt that :CBROA is an associ-
ation of officers and we should not change the
identity under any circumstances The integra-
tion therefore should be only after a rethinking
only. The meeting which was started at 7 pm
ended at 9 pm with vote of thanks by G.S Pil-
lai.

Jayaram & her Team had organised a pot/
vase decoration event during Navratri. The
idea was , every day ,to put up on group, pots
& vases decorated in pre determined colour
of the day,. like one day grey, another day or-
ange & so on.
There was tremendous response from
Mumbai Region lady members & there were
about 150 entries poured in. I am putting up
her small write up & the actual entries we re-
ceived, for our CC group. Since lockdown, this
is the 3rd event ( Rangoli, Bollywood Costume
dress & now pot /vase decoration) She & her
Team has conducted.

UDUPI—09.11.2020 :
Today's session was arranged for Online Life
certificate submission. It went on very smooth-
ly and very successful. 55 pensioners includ-
ing E syndicate and workmen attended the
session. They expressed their appreciation
and heartfelt thanks to CBROA Udupi for the
arrangements made. Officers of Regional of-
fice Court Road Udupi Sri Ganesh, Sri Sriniva-
sa Prabhu,Sri Deepu Jose and SMT Shakun-
thala assisted the members in submitting the
Digital Life Certificate .The service of our vol-
unteers Sri K K kini, Maruti Prabhu,G V Ashok
was much appreciated.
CALICUT—10.11.2020 :
A Quarterly Joint Meeting of
CBROA,comprising of members at Calicut,
Malappuram and Wynad Districts was held on
10.09.2020 through the Google Meet platform.

E Prabhakaran, Ex Senior Manager put forth
an idea,to conduct the meeting without expos-
ing us to the danger of the virus and without in
anyway infringing upon the Corona protocols,
and the Google Meet app was selected for the
virtual meeting. The technical aspects of the
matter was entirely taken care of by Sri E
Prabhakaran including the initialization, issu-
ance of guidelines in advance, doing the trial
run and solving the technical intricacies instan-
taneously etc. In total 31 members participat-
ed. Sri V Padmanabhan CC member from Tri-
vandrum and Sri P V Surendran Regional
Secretary from Kannur also participated.
P Ramakrishnan welcomed the participants.
Sri K P P Nair presided over the meeting.
Sri KPP Nair expressed his happiness on be-
ing able to see and interact with all the partici-
pants online. He congratulated Si K V
Raghavan and Sri E Prabhakaran for the suc-
cessful and effective launch of the virtual meet-
ing platform. Sri KPP Nair in his presidential
address covered the issues facing the banking
sector especially the wage negotiations having
due relevance to the retirees and requested Sri
V Padmanabhan and Sri P V Surendran to
elaborate on the recent developments. He also
exhorted all the participants to fully utilize the
forum by active participation in the discussions
and interactions.
Sri K V Raghavan, Regional Secretary,
touched upon the developments in the banking
industry, stressing the points concerning retir-
ees. He informed that Sri E Prabhakaran was
the person who mooted the idea of conducting
a virtual meeting, using the Google Meet
app.He stated that Sri Prabhakaran's efforts in

implanting, nursing and steering to success the
idea of online meeting deserves our special
appreciation.He also advised the new retirees
to register standing instructions on operative
accounts for servicing installments and dues,
on HL,Vehicle Loans etc, immediately upon
retirement,without waiting for the sanctions for
continuation of loans,to obviate the complica-
tions attendant with the slippage of accounts to
NPA etc,
Sri P Balachandran, Ex CC Member in his ad-
dress stated that he was extremely happy to
take part in the virtual meeting, the first time in
the history of CBROA, Calicut.He informed that
hands behind the novel concept deserve our
deep appreciation. He also noted that it was
the wonderful leverage of the modern technol-
ogy that Sri Surendran from Kannur and Sri
Padmanabhan from Trivandrum are able to
participate in a meeting at Calicut. He appreci-
ated the efforts in utilising the advantages of
technology to tide over the COVID crises. He
further stated that there are lot of serious is-
sues concerning the bank employees and retir-
ees and that Sri Padmanabhan and Sri Suren-
dran shall be explaining the latest develop-
ments.
Thereafter Sri V Padmanabhan,CC Mem-
ber, was invited to speak and he dealt with the
general issues concerning the retirees includ-
ing updating of pension, Special Allowance,
court cases, the discussions on wage revision
etc. He informed that the membership strength
has to be increased to make our presence felt.
Efforts have to be made to enroll the non mem-
bers. He offered to send the list of non mem-
bers for follow up. He expressed his happiness

bers about scholarship to be given. He said in-
cluding last year's excess amount ₹ 3.80 lakhs
is available in the

list of 103 students from 1st Std to 10th stand-

that last year ₹ 1500.00 each was given as
Scholarship to deserving students from 1st Std
to 4th Std and ₹ 2000.00 for 5th to 8th std and
₹ 2500.00 to 9th and 10th Std students. He
said this year School Management has re-
quested to accommodate students of 11th and
12th Std (Evening College) who need financial
support.
The house suggested that this year we
can donate ₹ 375000.00 as scholarship. It
should cover 103 students and some more if
School Management can suggest and few stu-
dents from 11th and 12th Std evening classes.
Members suggested that this year as a special
case the scholarship amount may be increased
by ₹ 500.00 across the table and make it ₹
2000.00 (1 to 4th std) ₹ 2500.00 (5th to 8th
Std) ₹ 3000.00 (9th to 10th std) and for 11th
and 12th std also ₹ 3000.00 may be given.
There was a suggestion to give additional
amount to 2-3 physically handicapped students
who are in the list already provided.
The house agreed to all the suggestions
and decided to give Scholarship
375000.00 this year. Mr B V Pai informed that
the School Management has decided to cele-
brate Founders Day this year also but all pre-
cautions of Covid 19 will be followed. They
have invited CBROA Members to be present in

Scholarship Distribution function on 19th.
Mr Lakshmikanth Nayak informed that
CBROA Mangalore intends to organise a grand
fund. get- together of members and their family in
which prize distribution of all the three competi-
tions conducted by CBROA recently will be
held. He said it is possible only after normalcy
is established. He said if vaccination for
Covid19 is hopefully administed to all by Janu-
ary - February 2021 CBROA can organise the
programme in March 2021. He said a commit-
tee will be formed in January for the purpose.

We are glad to inform you the following out-
come and status in respect of our Writ petition
No 48905/2018 filed against a) Ministry of fi-

ed and thanked the members for selecting their
school for donating benches and desks which
is of a great help to the students. Copies of
Life History of the founder in Kannada lan-
guage were given to the school library. Sri
Yogesh Bhat in his presidential address ex-
pressed happiness that henceforth small chil-
dren need not sit on the floor in the classes
and thanked members for their involvement in
the activities of the association and celebrat-
ing the Founder's day in a very special way.

Today CBROA Mangalore conducted it's
virtual meeting through Google Meet App.
About 41 members attended the meeting. Mr B
R Kamath presided over the meeting. He initi-
ated the meeting by wishing Mr B Damodar
Shenoy who is celebrating his 75th Birthday
and also Mr Sudheer Bhat H who is also cele-
brating his birthday. Mr Kamath informed the
house about the Founder's Day Celebration on
19th and expressed happiness for the smooth
conduct of the function. He thanked all the do-
nor members for generously contributing for
the purpose.
Mr B R Kamath said that CBROA Manga-
lore always takes up important topics which are
helpful to members in every meeting. He said
CBROA Mangalore has invited Mr Koshy
George Pan India Operations Head of MDIndia
TPA for Canara Bank to address the members
today. On behalf of all members Mr Kamath
welcomed Mr Koshy George for the meeting
and requested him to address the members.
Mr Koshy George expressed his happi-
ness to address the seniors and said he is
happy to be associated with us. He explained
in detail about the IBA Insurance Policy, the
extent of its coverage, the procedure for claim
in both cashless and reimbursement, the need
of giving intimation, the humane touch of
MDIndia towards all claims, the organisational
set up of TPA and many other important is-
sues. He assured all help in every situation. He
replied to all the issues raised by members. It
was a very very useful session and all mem-

Secretary ) took out-of box initiative of bring-
ing out “Diwali Ank” this year following diffi-
cult Covid-Time and lockdown period sine
March 2020. Lockdown surely helped people
unlock their hidden talent, desire for writing,
planting, cooking, cleaning etc. Naturally,
their Whatsapp group members wrote arti-
cles, poems, essays, travelogues etc which

too. An enthusiastic Mr. Anil Deshpande

need to be unearthed. “Muktchand” thereaf-
ter, is the outcome of wonderful Team-work.

A passing reference to Shri Ammembal
Subraya Pai ’s tryst with banking is relevant. In
the early 1900s, Arbuthnot Company, which
collected deposits from the public and gave
loans, crashed and caused widespread dis-
tress in Canara. Many families lost all their sav-
ings in the crash. The smaller merchants found
it very difficult to get credit except at prohibitive
rates of interest. Shri Ammembal Subraya Pai
foresaw disaster ahead if the community did
not mobilise its own resources to help itself.
The result was the starting in 1906 of the Ca-
nara Hindu Permanent Fund Limited, which
was later to become Canara Bank. The venture
proved an instant success. That so soon after
the crash of Arbuthnot, the people entrusted
their savings to the newly started institution is
an eloquent testimony of the trust people had
in Shri Ammembal Subraya Pai . Incidentally,
the first such bank in Tulunadu, today’s Corpo-
ration Bank, was started in Udupi, a few
months earlier the same year.
Pai was also an admirer of nationalist leaders
of India. He held Sri Aurobinda Ghosh (later
known as Sri Aurobindo) in great admiration.
He was an avid reader of Aurobindo's paper
'Yugantar'. In his office room was prominently
displayed a portrait of Ashwini Kumar Dutta,
one of the heroes of nationalist Bengal, one

Pai was a patriot at heart and a humanist by
action. In 1891, four teachers, whom he had
met in Madras, approached him with a pro-
posal to start a school in Mangalore and thus
was born the Canara High School, on 22 acres
of land donated by A Upendra Pai, his father in
Mangalore. He also firmly believed that for the
social and economic uplift, education was the
key.And education not confined to men only.
Shortly thereafter, in 1894, with a view to en-
couraging the education of girls, he started the
Canara Girls' High School, indeed a revolution-
ary step considering the prevalent values and
attitude of the people towards women's educa-
tion at that time.
Finally, repeated and severe attacks of gout
led to the sudden death of Shri Ammembal
Subraya Pai on July 25, 1909. The news of
the death spread like wild fire and plunged the
district in grief. People thronged the corridors
of his house and filed into the room where his
body was laid. People wept and many related

The Indian Banks’ Association on Friday
made a strong case for vacation of the Su-
preme Court order that restrained banks from
classifying accounts as NPA. Senior counsel
Mr Harish Salve, appearing for IBA, vehe-
mently urged a Bench led by Justice Mr Ashok
Bhushan to vacate its order of September 3
that directed banks against declaring loan ac-
counts that were not NPAs prior to August 31.
Solicitor general Mr Tushar Mehta, appearing
for the Centre, urged the apex court not to
delve into the issue of sector-specific loan re-
payment reliefs and the issue should be left to
be resolved between lender banks and bor-
rowers. The apex court had last week asked
RBI to respond to the power producers’ de-
mands for various benefits, including restruc-
turing of their loans, under the recent central
bank circular on debt recast. Banks are losing
money every day due to these restrictions and
the same should be lifted as the need for such
protection no longer existed, he argued, add-
ing that “banks are rendered helpless against
defaulting borrowers”, Mr Salve contended.

KEEP YOUR LEGS STRONG
The Importance of keeping your legs
strong. When we are old, our feet must always
remain strong. When an elderly man ages, he
is not afraid of his hair turning white or his skin
is sagging or wrinkled.
Among the signs of longevity, summa-
rized by the US magazine “Prevention”, “strong
leg muscles” are listed in the top order. Do not
move for two weeks, leg strength has de-
creased by 40 years. A study from the Univer- 5.
sity of Copenhagen in Denmark found that both
old and young, during two weeks of inactivity,
leg muscle strength weakened by a third, which
is equivalent to 40-50 years of age. As the leg 6.
muscles weaken, it will take a long time to re-
cover, even if you do rehabilitation later.
Therefore, regular exercise is very important.

through them. It is the large circulatory
network that connects the body. Only
when the feet are healthy then the con-
duction channel runs smoothly, then peo-
ple who have strong leg muscles will defi-
nitely have a strong heart.
4. Aging starts from the feet. As a person
gets older, the accuracy and speed of in-
struction transmission between the legs
and the brain decreases, unlike when they
were young.
In addition, the so-called “bone-fertilizing”
calcium in the bones will sooner or later
be lost, making the elderly more prone to
fractures.
Fractures in the elderly easily trigger a se-
ries of diseases, especially fatal diseases
such as brain thrombosis.

Now the turn of Hanumantha comes.
Lord Rama asks Hanumantha what does
he wants from Him. Sree Rama knew that
the services rendered by Hanumantha are
extra ordinary. Hanuman or Anjaneya po-
litely refuses to take anything from Lord
Rama, his master, but asks for one boon
from Him and that was He should permit
Hanmantha to chat His name always. But
Rama would not allow Hanumantha to go
easily like that. Sree Rama thinks twice
and finally He decides to embrace Hanu-
mantha. That was the greatest reward An-
janeya received from Lord Rama. No oth-
er person except Seetha Devi had the

Rama. That is why Hanumantha is called

Rama Bhaktha Hanuman, and people be-
lieve that wherever Ramayana is read, or
Rama’s name is chanted, Anjaneya would
be present there invisibly. Wherever Lord
Rama’s temple is there, one can see the
statue of Lord Rama embracing Hanu-
mantha.
Lord Rama gave another great reward to
Hanuman. He invited him for sharing the
food served on a plantain leaf by sitting
face to face. A great recognition indeed!
That is why Vaishnavas believe that plan-
tain leaves have a line or nerve in its mid-
dle dividing into two equal parts. What a
big reward for the greatest and sincerest
works of Sree Rama Bhaktha Hanuman-

We all have worked for a long tenure of
30 to 38 years in the Bank. We have worked
with sincerity and dedication. We never felt the
work is boring or difficult. It is because we
loved to work. We respected our work in the
esteemed institution. We developed love and
affection among our colleagues and we defined
our colleagues as Canbank family. .We all
have travelled extensively throughout the
length and breadth of the country either on
transfer or on inspection or on LFC. We en-
joyed travelling and meeting new people. The
journey went on and on for a long period. At
last it came to an end. Yes we are retired.
A small percentage of our colleagues
took voluntary retirement due to various per-
sonal reasons. But majority of us worked for
the full tenure and retired at sixty. We enjoyed
our freedom from hectic work for a few days.
We spoke to our family members leisurely for
some time. Then the real problem started. Our
life style is so well adjusted to the biological
clock. We will get up early get ready to go.
Now the question is where to go? And what to
do? Slowly it came to our knowledge that peo-
ple are neglecting us. We are deprived of our
due respect and importance at home as well as
in the society. Many of the retired employees

went to depression. Even
when we were in service
we had developed certain
health issues like diabe-
tes, hypertension, indiges-

tion and so on. As our

wise busy, we never felt
that we have health issues. Now after retire-
ment, these health problems have come to
lime light and made us more depressed. No
doubt every one of us took immediate remedial
measures, visited clinics and hospitals and tak-
ing regular medication.
The real problem is effective utilization of
time. We were running short of time while in
service. Now time is available in abundance,
but most of us are unaware how to make use
of the time. I never use the term “Time Pass”.
Time will pass automatically. Time Pass is the
problem of lazy and uncultured people. Being
educated, cultured and highly disciplined bank
officers, we never think of time pass, but we
always think how to make use of the available
time in useful way.
Some of our colleagues have taken up re-
employment after retirement and started their
second innings. It may be inspection work in
our own bank or audit work in other banks and
financial institutions. Some officers have joined
as faculty in various bankers training institu-
tions. Some of our friends have taken up insur-
ance business as life advisors, financial advi-
sors and so on. Some are engaging them-
selves in social service organizations like Lions
Club, Rotary Club etc and doing service to hu-

manity. Those who have talents like singing,
acting, writing etc have involved themselves in
music practice, teaching, giving music pro-
grams etc., some of our friends are acting in
television serials and in films. People like me
who have a flare for writing are involving in lit-
erary activities and continuously working in
bringing out literary works. Some of our col-
leagues have joined schools, colleges, hospi-
tals, marriage halls, Mutts and temples as
managers or admin staff. The above group is
highly appreciated and to be followed.
However majority of our friends are not in-
terested in taking up re employment or involv-
ing in any social service activities. They are the
people who are suffering from loneliness, de-
pression and as a result falling sick with vari-
ous health issues. Now let us directly attack
the above problems and explore all possible
remedial measures.
The problem of depression and loneliness
is mainly due to immobility and lack of activities
at home. If we keep ourselves busy and disci-
plined, no problem will come to us. I shall try to
give certain remedial measures and my sug-
gestions in this regard.
• Cultivate the habit of getting up early from
the bed and plan for the day’s activities.
• Get ready by 7 AM and go for a walk.
Practice yoga, pranayama, meditation
and so on. Involve yourself in clapping
club, laughing club, health club and spend
some time happily in the morning.
• Come home with a pleasant experience
of the walking.
• Read news papers leisurely, watch TV
news for more details.
• Take bath and have breakfast, do pooja if
you like.
• If you are a Muslim do namaz as per laid
down procedure. Visit masjid whenever
possible. If you are a Christian read Bi-
ble. Go to Church on Sundays with your
family, read bible regularly. If you are a
Hindu, read Bhagvat Gita, religious books
and do paarayana of Ramayana, Maha-
bharatha, Vedas, Upanishads and various
other religious books of your family tradi-
tion.
• By 10 AM, we feel like going out, as we
are habituated to go to office. Please
dress up and go. Where to go? What to
do? Please visit libraries and glance three
to four news papers. Read some maga-
zines and periodicals. Barrow one or two
books from the library as permissible ,
read them at home in the afternoon.
• Develop home garden , kitchen garden
and terrace garden, grow vegetables and
flowers for the house. Gardening keeps
you engaged and gives you lot of happi-
ness.
• If you are having a pet dog, please take it
for a walk, give bath to the dog, take it to
veterinary doctor for checkup. Attend to
its needs. It takes care of all your family
members.
• You have a lot of books at home, they are
lying here and there and every where at
home. please arrange them neatly and

prepare an index of books. Read books
one by one, even though you have read
them long back. Purchase one or two
books per month and read. If you have a
large collection of books finding it difficult
to maintain, please donate to the needy
people. Present one new book to your
friends and relatives.
• When ever you get an invitation for a
marriage, thread ceremony or naming
ceremony, or house warming ceremony
please go to the function, spend half a
day happily with friends and relatives.
• Please attend cultural programs, book re-
lease programs, music concerts as and
when possible. We never got the time to
attend to such programs when we were in
service, now please do it.
• You have a lot of photo albums at home ,
right from your childhood, school college
days, marriage photo album, marriage al-
bums of your children, bank photos, LFC
photos and so on. Please take out all al-
bums, look at them slowly and relish the
sweet memories. Share the happiness
with your family members.
• There are six to eight wall clocks at home.
There are ten to twenty framed photos of
Gods and sceneries, some photos of fami-
ly members taken on various occasion like
marriage etc, please bring them down,
clean them well , keep them handy for a
day or two and rearrange neatly, fix them
on walls in a new fashion.
• List out all your relatives, friends, class-
mates, and colleagues. Call them over cell

phone and talk to them leisurely. If possi-
ble visit their homes, you could not make it
for decades together due to busy work
during bank service, now please make it.
Invite some of your close friends and rela-
tives to your home.
• Please visit orphanage, blind schools and
old age homes and spend some time with
the inmates. If possible give some dona-
tions. This gives you lot of satisfaction and
happiness.
• Please involve yourself in welfare activities
of your layout, locality, or apartment and
help them in your humble way.
• We have worked in various branches, of-
fices, and at various places through out
the length and breadth of the country. After
getting transferred from that branch we
never visited that place. We do remember
all our old friends, colleagues and custom-
ers. Now visit all those places. Please take
your family members along with you. The
happiness you derive out of these visits is
tremendous.
The above list is only illustrative but not
exhaustive. Every one of you will have many
more such ideas. Please implement and share
with us. I am sure it keeps us healthy and en-
thusiastic to lead a peaceful and contented re-
tired life.
