Based on Stonewall 50-NYC Parade 2019 analyzed using the framework of collective identity it

can be shown the relevance of LGBTQ's movement to come back in time as it helped remind
vividly of participants' membership in a diverse community existing over time, using the lessons
of history to revive the flagging spirits of a vanquished people. A movement that through the
memory of Stonewalls uprising where young marginalized by race, gender and class stood up
against the police oppression through songs, characters, symbols and places embodied in
themselves the essence of LGBTQ community; strengthening its collective feeling of solidarity
and love; inspiring further action. As mentioned by Francesco Servalli during the parade, "I feel
like we're going backward, but maybe it's the story: sometimes you need to step back to
continue forward."1 Although differences matter in the success of a movement the way LGBTQ
movement has overcome them has been through the celebration of those differentiations,
appreciating the authenticity and uniqueness of every human being, and more importantly being
the sense and consciousness of a shared history the vital ingredient to overcome differences
and unify.

This commemorative celebration of the Stonewall uprising from which more than 4 million
people participated, acted as a driving force that enabled members to connect with movement's
values, which are not just emotions but stories, allowing them to align and the cause to become
one. A parade that reinforced the meaning and sense of pride in the acknowledgment of their
sufferings endured and achievements and promoted commiseration and awareness of unjust
suffering and discrimination taking place in the present; that demonstrated the capacity of
LGBTQ, when free, to express itself in ways of which all -homogeneous, heterogenous,
lesbians, gays, bisexual, queer, transgender, black and white people- can feel proud and
motivated for potential triumphs.

In addition, since the State continues to have weight in society's conduct by influencing the
social conscience and values that integrate into the culture and ethics of society. It is considered
vital not just for the liberationist tactics to be involved but also for assimilationists to accomplish
any cultural transformation. As mentioned by Stulberg, "Cultural visibility is not the same as
inclusive citizenship and all the civil equality that implies."; where the collaboration of both
elements has allowed the LGBT movement to create networks and practices that have not
needed a single organization to remain in force. A movement that throughout time has obtained
great achievements ranging from the satisfaction of demands by the State to the consolidation
of the topic of orientation sexual and gender in opinion and in public and private spaces,
representing a fundamental step to deconstruct the cultural and political prejudices firmly rooted
against LGBTQ people in society. (Stulberg,131)

Furthermore, Lady Gaga as promoter and shareholder during the Pride Parade 2019 embodies
as a clear example of liberationist relevance in the success of the movement that through music
and media has managed to touch and change hearts and minds. A woman that has

incorporated a large number of members, specifically young people using its international
recognition to make collective claims and raising visibility around the struggles that
non-heterogeneous people live every day. An artist that through its performance in the
Stonewall pub in New bet to keep alive the memory of all those who faced the oppressive police
after a brutal raid of the usual 50 years ago and fought for the rights of, specifically through the
infatuation of the value of the word LOVE during the parade. As she mentioned: "True love -
true, true love - is when you would take a bullet for someone, and you know that I would take a
bullet for you any day of the week. "2, recognizing love as the cause and reason of this invincible
family founded back at the Stonewall that has never known the word limits, and it is more than
ever ready to continue fighting.

Also, the participation of Mayor De Blasio in the parade is an example of the assimilationists
strategy involved in the movement, as a big step for the equity of dignity in the eyes of law as he
mentioned "We celebrate love, we reject hate, but we have to be resolved that is not going to
turn back the hands of time and take away our rights".3 He reminded of the reason why this form
of national self-expression was and is more now than ever essential, where the nation has the
distinctive mission to humanity to recreate a free, inclusive, united state through which the world
can express its individuality, reinforcing the LGBTQ's present purpose.

In conclusion, the 50th anniversary of Stonewall during the Pride Parade allowed LGBTQ
members to enforced collective identity and motivation for action through the use of cultural,
symbological, and historical tactics. It demonstrated the necessity of movements to return to the
past as values can only be enforced and changed through experience working with pre-existing
customs and ideas that have a public resonance. Furthermore, the Pride parade showed the
power of memory as it has served to sustain LGBTQ movement in both its political and cultural
forms; permitting the movement to construct a sense of continuity during rapid periods of social
change, providing members a deep sense of purpose and stability, a robust and satisfying
sense of community in the present, and a feeling of continuity with both past and into a glorious,
united future.
