ASSESSMENT 1

1. Computers have become essential business tools for it speed up the business processes
and systems in aspects like manufacturing, marketing, accounting and administration. These
are used in business automation for communication and messaging tools, when it comes to
establishing contact with clients, and enables them to collaborate via email, Skype and other
various communication software. It also increases business efficiency by expediting routine
tasks, that is, computers track what needs to be done. Computers that are used particularly in
business automation also enable businesses to make better projections for monitoring data,
as it gives them much more precise information about the business’ future needs and income.

2. Research - With modern data-mining techniques, a business can acquire insightful


information about its customers and competition from all kinds of places, including forums,
search engines, industry-specific websites and even from social networks. Businesses can
use computers to research industry trends, patents, trademarks, potential clients and
competitors via search engines and proprietary databases.

Marketing – With a computer, a business can create and execute entire marketing campaigns
that span across every social media platform on the internet. The business can create ads to
run on websites and social media platforms using special software, and it can also buy
marketing services from other businesses – all connected to the internet. The advantages of
online marketing are cost reduction, brand engagement, demographic targeting, real time
results, less intrusive, and others.

Employee Management – Human Resources software can help businesses for their
employees to discipline them when problems occur. By storing employee information in a
central repository, HR applications make it easier to track employee performance, maintain
information about benefits and communicate with employees efficiently.

Data Storage - With computers and servers, businesses are able to store and sort millions of
files to enable the businesses to access it any time. The business could store the data in a
central location, and it could have other computers on the network access the data whenever
the business needs to, when the business has the permission to, or when the business could
store the data locally on individual computers. Computerized storage saves space and
provides a security of data.

3. The Hardware is the most vital component of a computer system, because it encompasses
everything with a circuit board that operates within a PC or laptop, and it provides mechanical
support and protection for internal elements such as motherboard, graphics card, CPU
(Central Processing Unit), power supply, and so on. Since it includes CPU, which acts the
brain of the computer, it makes it more vital because all the hardware and software completely
rely on the CPU for their operations.
ASSESSMENT 2

1. Excel - Excel is a spreadsheet application developed and published by Microsoft for


organizing and performing calculations on data. It can analyze data, calculate statistics,
generate pivot tables, and represent data as a chart or graph.

SPSS - The SPSS software platform offers advanced statistical analysis, a vast library of
machine learning algorithms, text analysis, open source extensibility, integration with big data
and seamless deployment into applications. Within the SPSS software family of products,
SPSS Statistics supports a top-down, hypothesis testing approach to your data while SPSS
Modeler exposes patterns and models hidden in data through a bottom-up, hypothesis
generation approach.

Lotus 123 – Lotus 123 is a spreadsheet for MS-DOS from Lotus Development Corporation
that can be programmed using "macros" and comes with a separate program to produce
graphs and charts, but this cannot be run at the same time as the spreadsheet. It has
keyboard-driven pop-up menus as well as one-key commands, making it fast to operate.

Accounting 102 – Accounting 102 is populated with new tools to keep students engaged in the
learning process and it allows them to practice their skills with algorithmically generated
datasets. It offers flashcards that personalize the study experience by constantly adapting,
and emphasizing the concepts a student still needs to master.

Solaris – Solaris is a Unix-based operating environment developed by Sun Microsystems,


which includes the SunOS operating system and a windowing system. Solaris currently
supports multithreading, symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), integrated TCP/IP networking, and
centralized network administration.

2. Developers or companies release versions of software because of the following reasons:


First, software updates help protect personal data. Hackers can get ahold of personal
information or important data and they might use it to commit crimes. Updating a software
helps keep hackers out, and staying on top of each release will keep a company at the front of
the pack, safe and secure. Second, software updates help patch security flaw or software
vulnerability. This is a security hole found in a program, and hackers use it for malware,
wherein it can steal data saved on the device and allow the hackers to control and encrypt the
files. That is why the use of software patches is to cover these security holes to keep hackers
out. Lastly, software updates give new features. After the updates, companies will enjoy an
improved functionality and an increased ease of use from the software. Lastly,

2. Workday - It is an ERP software that provides financial management and human capital
management functionality for companies across a variety of industries, such as financial
services, healthcare and life sciences, higher education, manufacturing, retail and hospitality,
service businesses, state and local government, and technology firms.

3. NetSuite - It is an online service that enables companies to manage all key business
processes in a single system. The service involves no hardware, no large and upfront license
fee, no maintenance fees associated with hardware or software, and no complex set ups.
