Language has the important relation with society. Society is a group of people who
live together in an organized way. Where the society exist, there is a language. Language
plays as a speech community (which is a group of people who share a set of norms, rules
and expectations regarding the use of the language) in the society. Language is used as
the tool of communication, and it can be the feature of the society because almost in
every society use different language to communicate each other. For instance in social
dialects, language can identify the educated people from the language that they use. Also
in social class, there are some differences of pronunciation among social class from the
same place. The upper class and more educated people tend to use more complicated
forms, and the lower class and less educated people tend to simplify the way of speaking.
Age and gender are factors that can determine language variety, also can influence the
role of language in society. The role of language in ethnic background is easy to identify
people’s belonging place. Style of language identify features according to the situation
of use , it can go from very formal to very informal. Register according to a specific
situation where certain expressions or sentences are used, and Jargon deals with
technical vocabulary associated with special activity or group.
