Very severe ( VS )

Gross combination weight (GCW)

Gross combination weight = Technical/Legal gross weight combination ton

Service intervals

Oil filters to be replaced at every oil replacement.

Use only UD Trucks genuine oil filters.
When the service interval is specified in more than one unit, e.g. in km, engine hours and/or calendar time, it
means that the service interval is limited by the option whichever occurs first.

Long life full flow filters, with part number 152009Z00A must be used if the oil replace interval exceeds 40 000
km.
No engine oil replace interval shall exceed 12 months.

Fuel quality

Engine oil replacement intervals differ depending on the fuel quality which is being used. In the engine oil replacement
interval tables, different types of fuel are listed. The different fuel types are defined in the following way:

Fuel type 0: The sulphur content in the fuel does not exceed 0.0010% in weight (10 ppm).
Fuel type 1: The sulphur content in the fuel does not exceed 0.05% in weight (500 ppm).
Fuel type 2: The sulphur content in the fuel is between 0.05% in weight (500 ppm) and 0.5% in weight (5000
ppm).
Fuel type 3: The sulphur content in the fuel exceeds 0.5 % in weight (5000 ppm).

Service intervals for engine oil

Note: No oil replacement interval is allowed to exceed 12 months

Note: Intervals based on engine hours are normally only applied to Transport cycle Construction. But the engine hour
intervals depends strongly on actual average vehicle speed and can therefore only serve as indications. Use either
mileage or max. allowed fuel consumption as given in the footnotes (whichever comes first).

Note: Using fuel with too high sulphur level may damage the engine and exhaust after treatment systems.

Engine oil

Quality
Use only VDS-3 or VDS-4 approved oils.

Note: Extra oil additives are not to be used. This includes engine and metal treatment additives added to the engine oil.

Viscosity
The viscosity is selected in accordance with the diagram.
Temperature values refer to constant air temperatures.

1. Only VDS-4 approved oils can be used above +30°C.

Non VDS-4 approved oils can be used up to +30°C.
2. VDS-3 and VDS-4 approved oils of viscosity grade 5W/30 can be used up to +30°C.
3. When using 10W/30, fuel consumption can be lower than when using 15W / 40.

All engines are factory filled with engine oil of the quality level providing max oil drain interval for the respective engine
type.

Oil and filter changes after a repair on the engine

After an engine has been repaired, renovated or opened, e.g. the cylinder head been removed, piston and liner
change, work with timing gears or a bearing change, it is recommended to perform an extra oil change. The
recommended interval for this is within 20 - 10000 km after the engine has been repaired, renovated or opened. When
the extra oil change has been completed, the engine's normal service recommendation applies.

Oil change after repairing the rear axle

If a component has been repaired, renovated or opened, an extra oil change must be carried out. This oil change shall
be carried out 20 –> 5000 km or 4 weeks, whichever occurs first, after the component has been repaired, renovated or
opened. When the extra oil change has been completed, the component’s normal service recommendation applies.

Lubricated components (with grease nipples)

Requirements for lubricating grease are as follows:

1. High grade wheel bearing grease should be used.
2. The grease should be mineral oil based
3. The grease should be lithium or lithium complex type.
4. The grease should contain EP and anti-rust additives.
5. The grease must have a consistency equivalent to NLGI No. 2 — 2.5.
6. The grease should not contain any solid lubricants, such as graphite, copper or molybdenum sulphide.
7. The grease must be intended for use in working temperatures of at least 80° C and be able to withstand 120° C
for short periods.

Brakes cam shaft and slack adjuster

1. Lubricate every two weeks for the first four months from the date of delivery.
2. Lubricate every two weeks or whenever the brakes components is overhauled or whenever liners and seals are
changed.
