Subject : Grant of leaves due to severe illness and continuation of my studies

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Rishabh Agarwal a student of PGPM19 and have been performing and contributing in all my studies
and projects very seriously since joining. I had also contributed in making our institute proud by winning
HUL Carpe Diem as National Runner-up and am also an active member of the Sports Committee.
Unfortunately, since 29th October, I was not feeling well and had to give my exams while having fever
and surviving on Crocin.
Upon completion of exams, I consulted various Doctors on regular basis, and I was diagnosed with sever
and life-threatening dieses of “Enteric Fever with Scrub Typhus and Typhoid” after 15 – 20 days and post
hospitalization.
To give you some more background, between 31 st Oct till 11th Nov, I had 3 Medical Lab tests and 5-6
time consulted senior physicians, but they could not pin-point my dieses. I was continuously getting very
high fever with chills 5-6 times a day, fever was not settling down, cough, low BP and many other issues.
Upon taking fever reducing tablet, I used to get very high and abnormal level of sweating causing me to
change my cloths 4-5 times a day. On 11 th Nov, upon reperforming Lab Tests, I was diagnosed with
Typhoid without any relief (I had shared all these details via email to my teachers and the Graduate
Program Office on 11th Nov – Copy enclosed)
My parents were very worried and full time engaged in taking are of me by all means.
As a last resort and since there was no relief, we consulted another senior doctor in Kailash Hospital and
he advised us to get admitted without any delay and started injectables with other supporting
management, keeping option of ICU care ready. Extract of Senior Doctor findings are self-explanatory
“ Patient Rishabh Agarwal age 23-5 year Male, presented with complaints of fever X 2 weeks
with chills( fever not settling down despite medication) cough, sweating, loose stools with foul
smell, wt. loss – 4 kg. On examination tongue coated, conscious, temp 102 degree F… During
hospitalization patient had fever persistently with loss of appetites, body ache, H/o weight loss,
raised ESR, decreased Hb, PCV, RBC, neutrophilia, lymphocytopenia, eosinopenia………
…….Requisite treatment were continued alongwith supportive care. Patient was managed with
injectibles with other supportive management. As of now patient is stable, vitals are within
normal limits and is being discharged with followup medical advice.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Enteric Fever with Scrub Typhus”

Dear Sir/Madam, you can imagine that my parents and I have gone through very challenging time and by
the grace of god have recovered from such a serious and life-threatening diesis. However, it could have
not gone to this serious level, if the diagnosis could have happened in early days, despite multiple
Doctor consultation and Lab tests. We suffered and wasted between 31 st Oct till 14th Nov (15 days) and
then only Kailash Hospital came for our rescue.

If these 15 days were not wasted and the diagnoses was made on time I could have recovered and made
it back to the college in time. The doctors were not able to make the diagnoses in time and both my
parents and I suffered because of the same. I now have 30 days of leave, counting Saturdays and
Sundays, instead of 21 days which is allowed, but like I explained above it was really impossible for me
to be able to attend class during this period. I request for the 9 extra days of leave I do not be held back
a year. This will severely affect me financially, socially and mentally. I have taken a student loan to be
able to afford education in the prestigious college. I have also already gone through induction and
summer placements where I was placed in Johnson and Johnson. It will also be hard to see my friends
and peers move on and graduate while I repeating a year.
It is my humble request that my case be considered and I not be held back for something that was out of
my control. If it was my choice, I wouldn’t miss a day of MDI.
