Family/Community Connection or Extension:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today in class, I taught the last lesson on rainbows, which was

math centered. In this lesson, I gave each child 5 red beads, 5 orange
beads, 5 yellow beads, 5 green beads, 5 blue beads, 5 indigo beads,
and 5 violet beads. I initially gave them the beads mixed up. The first
part of the lesson was for the students to sort the beads by color.
Then, the students worked on one-to-one correspondence. They did
this by counting each red bead and moving it to its corresponding spot
on a picture of a rainbow. They did this with each color. Lastly, I got
each child to describe what they had done. You can work on this at
home with skittles. You can start by opening a bag of skittles and
prompting them to sort them by color. Then, getting them to count
each skittle of each color by touching it as they go. I hope you enjoy
this lesson at home!

Pre-Assessment:
I gave each child a set of objects up to 5 and asked them to count the
objects. I observed the steps they took to count them. For example, if
they touched the object when they counted it and if they counted an
object more than once. I documented everything the child did to
complete the task.

Lesson Procedure and Activities: (the format will depend on the
type of lesson such as ELA or science)

Introduction:
I will do this lesson in small groups, 4 groups of 4. To begin
each group, I will give each of them a printed-out picture of a
rainbow. I will ask them to identify the colors that are in the
rainbow and what order they go in.

Activities:
1. I will give each child 5 red beads, 5 orange beads, 5 yellow
beads, 5 green beads, 5 blue beads, 5 indigo beads, and 5
violet beads. I will give these to them mixed up.
2. The students will sort the beads by color.
3. The students will then use one-to-one correspondence to
count each bead. They will count to 5 with the red beads
by touching each bead and moving it to its corresponding
place on the rainbow picture. They will do the same thing
with the rest of the beads.
Closure:
I will get each child to describe to me how they completed the
task at hand.

Differentiation:
For the student the speaks only Spanish, I will demonstrate the
activity before so that she understands the task. For the children
that need help with articulation, I will help them articulate a
number if they need while they are counting.

Formative Assessment/Evaluation:
I will give each child a set of objects up to 5 and asked them to count
the objects. I will observe the steps they took to count them. For
example, if they touched the object when they counted it and if they
counted an object more than once. I will document everything the
child does to complete the task.
