Transition Project Handout

1. My mentor’s classroom is a pre-k classroom that is all face-to-face. There are 16 students

in the class, 11 girls and 5 boys. The students are mostly 4 years old, with a couple that

are 5 years old. There is one student who is speaks only Spanish and there are a couple

students who need help with speech articulation. The classroom consists of one teacher

and one paraprofessional.

2. This transition project was chosen because I have seen my mentor teacher do transitions

that are similar to this one. Because of that, I thought this would be a transition that the

children would enjoy and become engaged in.

3. Transition design

a. The goal of this transition is to get the students from sitting on the carpet to lining

up.

b. The prop is a stick that looks like a magic wand.

c. In the transition, my role is to go to each child and point the magic wand on them.

I will turn each child into a different animal. Then the child will pretend to be that

animal as they stand up and proceed to their spot in line.
