Personal Change Project Proposal

Proposal Assignment

Goal:
For this project my goal is to work on verbally communicating how/what I am feeling,
rather than shutting down and hiding my feelings.

Rationale:
When I get upset, like with my siblings or boyfriend for example, I tend to not talk
anymore and avoid whoever it is, rather than talking about how they made me feel. This
makes it very difficult to improve relationships and work through the problem. If I work
on communicating it right in the beginning, It could help make my relationships better,
and limit fights.

Strategies:
1. I will work to ​be clear ​(Beebe, Beebe & Redmond, 2017, p. 158) when I am
expressing my feelings.
2. I will ​describe your feelings, rather than evaluate behavior​ (Beebe, Beebe &
Redmond, 2017, p. 165) so others know how I feel in situations.
3. I will learn to ​be mindful of your nonverbal behavior ​(Beebe, Beebe &
Redmond, 2017, p. 205)
4. I will work on ​how to apologiz​e (Beebe, Beebe & Redmond, 2017, p. 173) in
situations where I become upset and silent.

Implementation:
I plan to begin this process as soon as possible, such as the next time I get upset or
frustrated by others actions. I will sit down and talk with them about how that made me
feel and work on openly expressing it. I will remind myself the benefits of talking things
through to help ensure I actually follow through.
