Pedagogy Planning

will also count, pronounce, blend and segment the syllables in words they say every day.
Pedagogy

Activity The students will be divided into groups so they are equal in
number and that they can pay attention in class. I will begin
the lesson by introducing a nursery rhyme. The class will then
be asked to think of words that sound the same. We will be
using Jack and Jill. We will begin using the words Jill, hill,
down, crown. After they recognize that these words rhyme,
we will also watch the interactive story on YouTube titled
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly and talk about
words that rhyme. We will then be ready to do our
whiteboard activity.

The whiteboard activity is titled Rhyme Time Fun Time. The

students will complete four activities in their groups.

After this activity they will be able to:

Recognize and produce rhyming words and count, pronounce,
blend, and segment syllables in spoken words.
 The first activity is Rhyming Match. The students will
each get a turn to manipulate items on the whiteboard
to drag and drop an object under the picture that it
matches. The next group will let one person come to
the whiteboard. Each group will have a turn until all
objects are placed in groups. We will then review their
choices as a group.
 The second activity is called Match It Up. The first
group will take a turn matching two items by dragging
them to the center and dropping them to see if they
rhyme. All items will be matched and then we will go
over the items matched as a group.
 The third activity is Circle the Match. This will require
the students to click on the pen and they will also have
an eraser available for use. They will call out the boxed
item then circle the picture that rhymes with the boxed
item. Each group will take turns. We will review each
answer after the activity is complete.
 The fourth activity is Listen…then Give a Rhyme. Each
student will have a turn to come to the whiteboard and
click on a sound icon and listen to a word. They will
then tell the class a word that rhymes with the word.
We will take turns until all students have had a turn.
After all whiteboard activities, the students will be given a
worksheet with words to be cut apart. This activity will
reinforce the whiteboard activities. They will then match the
rhyming words and glue them onto another worksheet page in
their rhyming pairs. They will review these in their groups.
After all students have completed this activity, we will review
this as a class.
