VARIATION OF g DUE TO LATITUDE (OR DUE TO ROTATION OF EARTH)
LATITUDE: The angle between the equator and the line joining the place to the
Centre of earth is called the latitude of a place on the earth.

Special case :
(i) At equator A= 0°,cosA=1,hence g, =g—R, w*
(ii) At the pole 2 = 90° ,cosA=O,hence gp =g—Rew*xogp=g
Thus acceleration due to gravity is minimum at the equator and maximum at the poles
(ii) Gp-Je =R_w?
NOTE:
# Effect of rotation of the Earth is maximum at the equator and minimum at the poles.
#If the earth stops rotating the weight of a body would increase due to the absence of centrifugal force.
# Even for the rotating Earth, the direction of acceleration due to gravity is towards the Centre of the
earth both at the equator and at the poles.
# At intermediate latitudes ,This direction slightly deviates from the Centre of the earth. The maximum
deviation is about 0.1 degree.
