Overview
i

The Warning Tone Generator (WTG) function resides within the Flight Data Processing System and is physically housed in the Input/Output Processor
Module in both Integrated Flight Cabinets (IFC1/IFC2).

The WTG computes and provides the Warning tones which alert the flight crew to specific events or system failures. The system prioritizes all aural
warnings including the management of GPWS and TCAS alerts.
WTG1 (IFC1) is termed the master and WTG2 (IFC2) the slave. Alert tones are provided by a single WTG channel (WTG1 or WTG2).

The WTG generates 11 tones and controls the aural warnings of the GPWS and TCAS which generate their own synthetic voice warnings. All tones (WTG)
and synthetic voice (GPWS, TCAS) warnings are prioritized.

The Tone Generation function is implemented on one board of the IOM (IO2) and transmitted to the RCAU. The other board (IO1) monitors this transmitted
tone signal via an external link between the two boards.

Both Warning Tone Generators receive parameters

from aircraft equipment and generate and prioritize
the associated tones as a function of IOP logic.

The Warning Tone Generator enhances flight-crew awareness of specific events in accordance with the visual alerts displayed on the EIS and on the
Warning and Caution panel.
It generates the following alerts as per the following logic:

- Engine Fire Warning: The WTG generates a tone triggered by the fire-bell discrete from the fire protection system
system.

- Incorrect Take-off Configuration Warning : The WTG automatically provides a tone when the aircraft is not in a safe Take-Off configuration.(Take-Off
Warning Logic Figure)

- Autopilot Disengagement Warning: This tone is generated when the A/P is manually or automatically disengaged. The FGM transmits to the WTG the A/P
disengagementt signal.

- Pitch Trim in Motion Warning: this tone is generated when the pitch trim has been manually activated and is in motion for more than 3 seconds. The WTG
receives this input directly from the FCS-ECU system.

- Overspeed

generated when Vmo has been exceeded. This tone is associated with a red p
pointer displayed

Indicator on the PFDs. The Vmo status is transmitted by the ADC via ARINC 429 label 207

- Incorrect Landing Gear Configuration Warning: The WTG provides a tone whenever the aircraft is in the Landing phase and when the Landing gear is not
down and locked

- Altitude Alert : The WTG generates this tone whenever the aircraft penetrates the selected altitude input envelope (+/
(+/- 1000ft of the selected altitude) or
when it exits the selected altitude output envelope (+/- 250ft from the selected altitude)

- Beta Lockout Warning : The WTG generates a tone when the Power Lever Angle is below IDLE position while in flight.
ev.09 06-2011

- Master Warning Tone: The WTG generates a tone, triggered by Warning and Caution Panel inputs, whenever a RED warning light is illuminated.

- Master Caution Tone: The WTG generates a tone, triggered by Warning and Caution Panel inputs, whenever an AMBER Caution light is illuminated.

- SELCAL: the WTG generates this tone when the Selective Calling (SELCAL) system responds to an incoming call.
