Dear Senator Street,

I am writing to you today about an issue that concerns me deeply. Numerous children who are
poor, in foster care, or returning from juvenile detention are at an education disadvantage due to
the lack of care. According to the Children's defense fund, “Less than half of poor children are
ready for school at age 5.” and “67% of public-school 8th graders cannot read at grade level.”
(2020). This is an urgent matter because poor children have the same right to education and
should not be left behind because of their status. The School Superintendents Association, also
known as AASA, focuses on health to support kids’ health outreach and enrollment. Another
organization that is advocating for children’s education is the Leadership Conference on civil
and human rights. They take real action to aid children, ensure their safety, and their educational
success.

With your help, more funding and action could be taken toward the education of unprivileged
kids. We need to reach out to families and organizations to enroll all children and provide them
with the necessary resources to get them on track. We need more funds directed to the education
of children to establish programs dedicated to the success of children. I want to see more
diversity in all schools and children getting equal opportunities. I am looking to start working
with my school district and seek to reach out to any families that need help with their kids. I am
hoping you can offer your help as well.

Thank you for your time,

Angelin Nasser
