Following Your Goals Is Important

What do you want to be when you grow up? Such a simple question with a lot of

possibilities. Dreams are inspirations that help guide us in life. I have the inspiration of

becoming a professional, I believe in following dreams and reaching goals. As they bring

happiness and fulfilment to one’s life. To not follow one’s dreams is to stop short in life. One of

my goals in life was to go to college and obtain a degree to become a professional.

However, life sometimes turns out differently than one has planned. I married young and

two years later I started my family. I was happy when I became a mother to my beloved son.

Then four years later we welcomed my beautiful daughter. My family is complete and life is

good I have a happy marriage with a hard working husband who provides for us. I am also

blessed to be financially stable, owning a small business of rental houses. But being a stay at

home mother forever was not for me, my children grew up and started school. And although I

lead a happy life I felt something was missing. I wanted more of life, so I started working at a

high school. I chose to work there for the convenience of the hours as my hours would be the

same as my children’s. Not knowing how my life was going to change in a positive way.

I fell in love with working with students and I decided to become a teacher. I am blessed

with the opportunity to work in a classroom with students. Who are taking dual credit classes for
college. These students are working towards their goals of a higher education. I was so inspired

by their enthusiasm of learning. That I decided that it wasn’t too late for me follow after my

dream, so I signed up for college. There’s a saying that goes like this “It’s never too late to

learn.” And I am a true believer of that.

Although I knew that it would not be easy for me I was determined to try it. I became a

non-traditional student who is a mother and a wife. With a full-time job as well as a part-time job

and so far I have managed. And three years later, I am excited to say that in a few weeks I will

obtain my Associate’s Degree in Education. I then plan on transferring to a university to obtain

my Bachelor’s in Secondary Education specializing in Speech with a minor in Psychology.

I am so happy that I made the decision to follow after my goal, and now my life will be

fulfilled. I will accomplish my dream of becoming a professional. And I will also be a good role

model for my children and nephews. And I will set an example for others to follow their dreams.

Dreams can come true with hard work and perseverance. And my advice for others is to follow

your dreams and goals in life, it is so rewarding and you will be glad you did.
