How has the early Western Civilization course affected my general education?

What is early western

Civilization? It is the history of how society came into being and everything that happened to the year
1500. In this essay I will be talking about the ways that this class has affected my General education.
First, I will talk about how my point of view of school has changed, then I will talk about the skills that
this class has taught me.

My point of view towards school has changed completely. Throughout high school I did not really like
school. The only good part was that I got to see my friends every day. However, as I have done this class,
I have started to genuinely enjoy the learning and studying process. I have realized through this class
how much I like history and think that it is a good educational path for me. It has been amazing to learn
more about the early days of human development, the rise and fall of early societies, the Crusades, and
how people reacted to the plague in the 1300s. I have also found that I have skills that I never thought I
would. I used to hate writing essays, but I have discovered that I am decent at writing essays. I just need
to gain more confidence in my writing, and like with anything else, practice makes perfect, or at least
better. I have also rediscovered that my reading retention is high, even in things that most would
consider boring. Not only have I discovered these skills, but I have also been able to develop some new
ones as well.

Throughout this course I have had to study textbooks more than I thought I ever would. I learned some
ways of not studying, such as using colored tabs to mark things in order by color using a worthless
pattern. However, from that I have had to figure out a system that works. I have also learned how to
write an essay with APA formatting and how to be able to research a subject that was a little unclear to
me. I was able to discover things that I never would have learned through the various papers that I had
to do.
This course has affected my general education in many ways, but mostly through changing my point of
view. It has been enlightening to learn from the past and the way they handled the situations they were
in. I have enjoyed this class and cannot wait till I can learn more.
