College Application Process Lesson Plan

ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors: M 4. Understanding that postsecondary education and life-long
learning are necessary for long-term career success; B-SMS 10. Demonstrate ability to manage
transitions and ability to adapt to changing situations and responsibilities

Objectives: to have students find 2-3 colleges that match their criteria, to give an overview of
college application process and answer students questions about the process.

Overview/Intros - Introduce yourself 5 min
- The purpose of the meeting: to teach you about the college
process, answer questions, and empower you to feel
confident with your post-secondary plans
- Fill out the pre-survey
Get to Know Share the Jamboard link: 10 min
You - Have each person write a sticky note with a rose, a bud, or
a thorn regarding their college or career plans and put the
sticky not in that category
- Each person shares their rose, bud or thorn
- Provide feedback, make connections between peoples
responses, etc.
College Talk them through the entire process using the College 20 min
Application Application Checklist
Checklist At the end:
- Based on this timeline, where are you in the process?
- What is most challenging for you at this moment?
- What burning questions do you?
- How can the school counseling team support you?

generate a list of schools that matches their needs.
