1.

Explain the behavior of Roland and Jenny in the following situations, using the concept of motivated
behavior:
Roland:
a) Decision to acccept the job

Roland, according to the case, decided to accept the job because of the following reasons:

 He was impressed by the salary range that was mentioned by Gil, the employer
 He ws also gguaranteed that the job would be in Cavite; in addition, he has also been told
of the policy of related autonomy for each facility so he felt that he would not be
transferred

These are the factors that convinced Roland to accept the job. What motivates Roland to accept the job
is because his father is nearly the retirement age yet he had not spent enought time with any one
company to accumulate pension benefits. The job being near his home is another motivation of roland
to acceept the job because he is closely knitted to his family.

b) Reaction to training program

At first, Rolland was unwillingly transferred to another department with the assumption that he
was eager to learn. In the end, Roland saw this as an opportunity to broaden what he knows and
saw it as an advantage on his side
c) Satisfaction with job
Roland is satisfied with his job. This is the result from him being motivated to do his job. His
motivation is what drove him to perform his best on the job plus, the organization did reward him
for his efforts and he was seeing the opportunities that the organization can give him rather than
the disadvantages of it
Jenny:
a) Decision to acccept the job
Jennny decided to accept the job because
 It interest her that there is a lack of promotable human resource
 She felt that she would have plenty of opportunity to advance
 She would have a broad exposure to different aspects of the organization’s operation over
a period of time through the training program

Jenny is motivated to have the job she is an active person and want to try new or different things.

b) Reaction to training program

Jenny was disappointed with her training program because, according to her, it does not have
challenge exept for the two jobs that she handled. She also think that the organization is not giving
her the opportunities to change the organization for her proposal was turned down without a
thought
c) Satisfaction with job – Quality Control position
Jenny was disappionted with the training program because it betrayed her expectaion that it will
give her opportunities. Regarding her job in the quality control, although it gives her a chancce to
act as a manger annd did try to help change the organization for the better, she was criticized for
doing what she wants without permission from the higher ups. This lessen Jenny’s motivation to
work and resulting to job dissatisfaction.
d) Continued education
Because she felt that the organization is not giving her enough opportunies, she decided to increase
her class load at school where she will gain more knowledge that she can use in her advantage.
2. How does Vroom’s Expectancy Theory relate to Roland’s and Jenny’s behavior?

We first identify what Vroom’s Expectancy Theory is. According to Colquitt, Jeffery and Wesson
(2015) the expectancy theory describes the cognitive process that employees go through to make
choices among voluntary responses. It was also suggested in the theory that our choices depends
on the three specific beliefs that is based on our past learning and experience: expectancy,
instrumentality and valence.

In Roland’s case, he was expecting to remain in Cavite and receive high salary. He performed well
because he believed that there will be something good that will come out of it. The outcome that
he received was satisfactory for him, he get knew knowledge which he can use in any department,
he received a stable job with a high salary

In Jenny’s case, she was expecting new and plenty of opportunities for her in the organization. She
performed well, great even, believing that they will reward her for her job well done. However, the
ooutccome was something she was not expecting. Instead of praises from her co-workers, all she
received was the rejection of her proposals and no people make her feel that her work was
appreciated.

3. Explain the motivation of Roalnd and Jenny in those situations presented in Question #1 in relation to any
two content theory models
Roland decided to take the job not only because it is closer to his home but also it pays him a higher range
of salary. Accoring to maslow’s hoerarchy of needs, there are a hierarchy of five needs in every human
theere is and it includes our bodily needs like shelter, hunger, etc. and safety from both physical and
emotional harm.

Jenny on the other hand decided to take on the job because she was expecting that the organization would
give her plenty of opportunity to advance nad have a broader exxposure to the different aspects of the
organization. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy theory, the hierarchy of five needs in every human theere is
includes Self-actualization or the drive to become what a perosn is able of becoming. And since the
organization is not giving her enough of what shee needs, she lost her motivation to continue her training

4. Research the definition for personality. What inferences can be madde from the interaction between
personality and the individual sysytem, between personality and the formal oorganizational?
Personality according to colquitt, Lepine, and Wesson refers to the structures annd propensities inside
people that explains their characteristtic patterns of thought, emotion and behavior.
