In reference to DepED Regional Memorandum No. 68, s. 2020, the Department of Education Regional Office No. 02 through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) releases additional information, general recommendations and guidelines in the opening of classes for the SY 2020-2021 as of September 11, 2020. 2. With the opening of classes on October 5, 2020, the following additional recommendations and guidelines is aimed to harmonize all public elementary and secondary schools to maximize the use of the learning resources, class schedules, learning modalities and all other activities relative to the start of classes. 3. ESTELA , EAD, CESO IV Director IV/Regional Director % RECORDS Encl: As Stated Reference: DO 7, 12, 18 s. 00162, DMCI-2020-00235, DMCI-2020- 00155, RM 67 s, 2020, RM 68, s. 2020, RM 76 s. 2020 To be indicated in the Perpetual Index ‘Under the following subjects: CURRICULUM LEARNERS INSTRUCTION General Recommendations and Guidelines in the Opening of Classes for SY 2020-2021 Rationale: Relative to the opening of School Year 2020-2021 scheduled on October 5, 2020 the Department of Education Regional Office No. 2 through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division is working hand in hand with the schools division offices and public elementary and secondary schools to fully operationalize the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum in the new normal. These general instructions and guidelines are intended to all DepED Officials, teaching and non- teaching personnel to guide them in the preparation of the opening of school year. This is to ensure that all details and activities shall be clearly communicated to the field. 1. ADM SLMs, LAS, Textbooks, Learners Materials 1. For K to 3 SLMs/LAS a. Materials shall be consumable. Learners shall write their answers on the attached activity sheets. b. Printed copies shall retain the colors and font sizes in address to the developmentally appropriate practices and needs of these learners. c. Guidance and assistance of knowledgeable others are encouraged to provide support in the guided and independent practice. 2. For Grades 4-12 Learners shall write their answers on a separate sheet of paper. 3.Textbook/Learners Materials ‘These materials shall be used to enrich content contain in the LAS and SLMs. The distribution of textbooks, learners materials and other learning resources available in the school is recommended. IL. Retrieval of Accomplished Activities 1. ForKto3 Learners shall detach the accomplished Activity Sheets from the SLM/LAS and submit them to their class advisers/subject teachers through their knowledge bearers and/or bring them to the pick-up/drop off points. 2. For Grades 4 tol2 Learners shall submit the accomplished Activity Sheets to their class advisers/subject teachers through their knowledge bearers and/or bring them to the pick-up/drop off points. 3. Online submission of answer sheets Accomplished Activity Sheets/Answer Sheets can also be submitted via online depending on the capability of the learners. Teachers must ensure that official chatbox/link/portal is established and communicated properly. Ill. Disposition of Unavailable SLMs/LAS 1. For Kto3 Contextualized Learning Resources shall be used to back-up the SLMs/LAS that are MELC-Based as enrichment/remediation. 2. For Grades 4-8 EPP/TLE Modules/LAS a. For this SY 2020-2021, the listed components per grade level shall be taught for the First Quarter considering the availability of SLMs/LAS as follows: Grade Level Quarter 1 Components Grade 4 ict Grade 5 Industrial Arts Grade 6 Industrial Arts Grade 7 Home Economics: Grade 8 ‘Agri-Fishery Aris/Aquaculture Grade 9 Based on Specialization Grade 10 Based on Specialization b. In the absence of SLMs/LAS, schools may opt to use the TESDA/DepED available resources for specialization subjects. c. CID through the EPS in-charge must ensure that these learning resources are MELC-based and quality assured. 3. For Senior High School Attached is the status of available SLMs/LAS that were uploaded and the target date when to upload the learning resources that are in its final revision. 4. For all grade levels across all learning areas While waiting for the other SLMs/LAS to be uploaded, schools shall strategize in the class programming the available learning areas considering the spiral progression, integrative and pre-requisite competencies per learning areas. IV. For Homeroom Guidance Program (HGP) Since the Region has developed the RD ELC which is also aligned with the HGP MELC, the following are recommended: 1. ForKto6 ‘SDOs shall use the RD ELC as a supplementary materials while waiting for the modules for HGP. 2. For JHS and SHS Schools are requested to develop Modules/LAS that are paralleled with the RD ELC. 3. RD ELC has been uploaded in LRMDS Portal for reference. These modules shall only be used for the period of one month to a quarter while waiting for the developed HGP module. Class Program 1. For Key Stages 1-3, class program shall be by quarter. 2. For Key Stage 4, class program shall be by semester. 3. Color coding shall apply for the plotting of subjects as follows: Green- Modules /LAS/Textbook Yellow- RBI Red- TVI/ETV Blue- Online Orange- Blended 4. Class programming can be in a daily, weekly, monthly or any basis depending on the context of the school with the consideration of integrative, spiral progression and prerequisite contents/learning areas. 5. Kindergarten shall still follow the blocks of time scheduled in the morning or afternoon 6. Distribution of time allotment shall be MELC-based, minutes shall be rounded of. 7. The integration of HGP shalll be done once a week at least one (1) hour. 8. The integration of DRMM shall be once a day or once a week. 9. Integration of COVID 19 IATF Protocols and other health-related reminders shall be reflected in the class program from morning sessions to afternoon sessions. 10. The number of MELCS per quarter and per learning area is hereto attached for reference in computing number of minutes per learning area per grade level. VI. Suggested Screen Time Guide 1. Guided by the World Health Organization (WHO) report, the following is the allotted screen time guidelines by age: Kindergarten- maximum screen time is one hour daily. Grades 1 to 3- maximum screen time is 1.5 hours daily. Grades 4 to 8- maximum screen time is 2 hours daily Grades 9 to 12- maximum screen time is 4 hours daily. pose VII.
