AMERICAN CITIES

Every country has certain cities that are known across the world.
Some cities are known because of their sights, others are known
because they are linked to some famous people or some important
historic events. I am going to speak about some of America’s cities
which are world-famous.

New York is the largest city in the USA. Its population is nearly
eight million people. New York brings to our minds the Statue of
Liberty, numerous skyscrapers, beautiful shops on Fifth Avenue and
fashionable theatres on Broadway. New York is America’s cultural
capital. It is home to many cultural institutions. New York has a
famous opera house, the Metropolitan. The Carnegie Hall is the city’s
most popular concert hall. New York’s night life is very diverse as
it has lots of restaurants, night clubs and discos. New York is the
place to try something new. It may be an experience you will never
forget.

Wall Street is the financial heart of the USA and the most important
banking centre in the world.

San Francisco is another American city known throughout the world.

San Francisco’s population is only about 716,000. But it is the
biggest business centre in the west of the USA. It is America’s most
international city. It has newspapers in thirty languages of the
world. There are such areas of San Francisco as “Little Italy” with
its pizzerias and ristorantes, “Chinatown” with its wonderful shops
and exciting food, “Japantown” with its $15 million Japan Centre.

Most people enjoy the climate in San Francisco. It’s never too hot
and never too cold. The sea winds are healthy and they make you
hungry. And it’s good to be hungry in San Francisco, because the food
is fabulous. There are more than 2,600 restaurants serving food from
all over the world.

Los Angeles is the second most populous city in the USA. Los Angeles
is noted for its balmy climate, lush scenery, motion-picture and
television industries, freeways and occasional earthquakes. Los
Angeles is home to Hollywood. It is famed as the centre of the
motion-picture industry. It is also a major centre of the US
television industry. The Hollywood Bowl is a natural amphitheatre in
the Hollywood Hills. It is the site of numerous cultural events.

Las Vegas is renowned for tourism and gambling. It offers various

indoor and outdoor recreational activities. There are lots of clubs,
restaurants, hotels and casinos visited by millions of tourists
arriving in Las Vegas every day.
