Formative Assessment 5: Cultural Objects

There are several objects that can tell my story and describe what kind of person I am. My range
of possessions from my childhood favorite toys, to notebooks, artworks, pens and pencil and
accessories. Out of all those sentimental things I have, I choose my earphones, pen, wire tree. It
is my top most recent things and the best to describe who I am in the present.

In starting my journey in college, one of my biggest obstacles is my transportation from home to

school and vice versa. It was challenging for me to travel 2 to 3 hours, including long lines for
public transportation, traffic jam, and rude, inconsiderate and even some harmful commuters,
enduring all of those with tiredness. My earphones help me to survive and overcome those
struggles, because it helps me to relax and fight boredom. It makes me feel like I’m not alone as
I was exposed in the crowd feeling unsafe, it also helps me to pretend and ignore catcalling while
walking in the public, pretending that I can’t hear them. For me, my earphone exists as it was
part of my body, with or without music I’m used of having it. The second object is my pen, I do
sketch portraits using pencils, but suddenly, I discovered my talent and love for landscapes pen
sketches. In high school, during lectures I playfully sketch trees and mountain, I always love
nature that I used it as my escape whenever I am bored. In repetition, I manage to improve my
skills in sketching, from a simple realistic tree to a wonder of the world. The particular pen that I
choose out of various of them is my recently purchased pen, it is my most expensive pen and it is
the one I used to draw seven wonders of the world during this quarantine. The last one is my
wired tree, it was hand made by me, it took me a week to finish. It was a combination of bronze
and sliver standing 8-inches tall and 5-inches wide. It was placed on my study table, sitting in a
clear bowl with white pebbles on it. I created it out of my imagination influenced by my love of
nature and most particularly on trees. I am always amazed and fascinated by trees, by how it was
shaped in perfection and it’s purposefully exist. The wired tree I made best described as I created
it with my full effort and passion.
The three objects are the best to describe my character and plays an important part in my life. My
earphone is something I’m accustomed of having around, it is a part of me that is very useful in
every day of my life. Even now, without commuting, I have been using my earphone in online
classes and in leisure activities. Both my pen and wired tree are symbolized my true identity and
passion, because I was being forced to take course I didn’t want. Being able to create such thing
means everything to me as it makes me feel that I’m being myself. It brings joy even for a while
because I’m doing something, I was passionate about.
