A House on Fire for Kids – It was a dry day and it was night.

The clock on the tower had

struck twelve. I was sleeping on the roof of my house.

Suddenly I heard shouts of “Fire, Fire!” I woke up at once and looked out in the street. I
saw a house on fire. It was at some distance away from my house.

I ran downstairs and reached the place. Many people had collected there. They were
trying to put out the fire. They were throwing water and sand on it.

But it did not prove of much help. A strong wind was blowing. Some cries were heard
from inside the house. The house belonged to a shopkeeper.

Soon two fire-engines reached the spot. The firemen began to throw a lot of water with
their hose-pipes. Two firemen entered the burning house.

They helped the family to come out. A child was burnt badly. It was brought out in a
senseless state. Fortunately no one was killed.

It took the Fire-brigade about half an hour to control the fire. Much of the house was
reduced to ashes. The shopkeeper had suffered a great loss.
