theme: “CHARACTERIZING SLIP-VELOCITY IN COUETTE-RHEOLOGY OF
NEWTONIAN AND LINEAR VISCOELASTIC LIQUIDS”.
BSTRAC
In this talk, | examine the effect of velocity slippage in a high precision device
used in characterizing fluid parameters, rheometers, where velocity slippage is
bound to occur due to the extremely small channel width. Through a robust
calculation, I will quantify this slippage by rigorously anal the flow
dynamics involved in the Couette gap, where a sample Newtonian and
viscoelastic fluid are been sheared. The governing equations that originate from
these studies are first partial differential equations having Robin-type boundary
equations. As a result, they are solved using the Sturm-Liouville theory using
eigenfunctions decomposition, and thus expansion. The equations reveal
interesting non-dimensional numbers such as the Reynolds number, the Rothko
number, and the Weissenberg number, In the end, a reverse engineering process
is shown, where the algorithms involve Fourier transforms wile highlighting
Lissajous figures, and Mooney-like procedures. This will lead to a proper
systematic characterization of slippage, which is critical in the calibration or
high precision rheometers.
