Blood compact was an ancient ritual in the Philippines intended to seal a friendship or treaty or to

validate an agreement. The involved parties would cut their wrists and pour their blood into a cup filled
with liquid such as wine and drink the mixture. Besides, the mixture they drink was divided equally
between the two and then they both drank the contents up to the last drop. A famous example of it was
the blood compact between Miguel de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna. This ritual only portrays commitment
of the involved parties of their treaty.

If I were be at that time when Spaniards got into the island of Philippines, I would not agree to welcome
them since the main purpose of the Spaniards why they landed in the Philippines was colonization
influencing the Filipinos to adhere their beliefs and traditions. When Spaniards reached Mactan, a threat
from the captain has been brought to the natives that if they don’t follow the beliefs and traditions of
the Spaniards, they might use force to make them a follower of their country. This threat was only
meant that the Spaniards had hideous intentions from the beginning that they only wanted to expand
their colony. Furthermore, the Spaniards never ever thought of having peaceful relationship with the
Filipino natives because they only saw us instrument for their country’s improvement globally. Thus, I let
Lapu-lapu fought them and if I were in there, I would be joining to Lapu-lapu to have the freedom we
always wanted.
