October Reflection
Ashley M Knepler
Reflection
During our October seminar, Professor O'Hagan covered several different expectations
and outcomes students can expect to be met and completed before the program's end. The first
topic covered was social justice competency and community activism. At the University of San
Diego, graduate students must meet program competency of Social Justice and Community
Activism by seeking field experience. Professor O'Hagan suggested that students do one of the
following to complete this requirement. Students could either volunteer in the community, work
with local legislators, or publish one article that addresses health inequalities. For me, I plan on
completing this requirement by volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul's organization in San Diego.
I have volunteered with them previously and believe that their organization has made many
contributions to the homeless population that has been long-lasting and beneficial.
The second topic that we covered in class was our ePortfolio. The ePortfolio aims to
create a platform where students can showcase their achievements throughout the Healthcare
Informatics Program. By the end of the program, our ePortfolio's will contain information such
as personal statement, current resume, residency journal, program outcomes, program plan,
capstone project, seminar journal, and program focus. Professor O'Hagan provided several
examples of previous students' ePortfolios. The platform we would be creating our ePortfolio on
was weebly.com. During the seminar, we were placed in breakout rooms on the zoom and were
able to browse the website and work on the shell of the ePortfolio. This seminar was important
because it allowed students to understand what is expected of them by the end of the program.
application. I believe that this assignment will be just as helpful as other assignments and is a
