An employee’s group has asked the Department of Education (DepEd) to reconsider

providing scholarships and trainings to deserving and qualified non-teaching staff for
their professional and career development.

Lawyer Domingo Alidon, national president of Department of Education-National

Employees’ Union (DepEd-NEU), said the government should not only provide free
education to public school teachers pursuing graduate and post-graduate studies but
also to non-teaching personnel.

“Before, there are scholarship grants for our non-teaching personnel. We want to bring
back those programs where we can avail scholarships or short-term training or
educational privileges being enjoyed by the employees,” Alidon said.

“Our non-teaching personnel must be prepared educationally for them to have a good
career path,” he said.

The call came after the education department earlier allowed the non-teaching
employees to participate in conventions, seminars, conferences and symposia, as part
of the collective negotiation agreement signed between the agency and the employees’
union.
