InTASC Standard #4:.

The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry,

and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences

that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to

assure mastery of the content.

4(d) The teacher stimulates learner reflection on prior content knowledge, links new

concepts to familiar concepts, and makes connections to learners’ experiences.

Evidence: Learning Menus Project

Narrative: The Learning menus assignment is an excellent display of the 4th InTASC

standard because it gives students the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge in various

forms. Additionally, pupils are encouraged to connect multiple concepts while creating

“learning menus”. They will be given a list of assignments (two large projects and three

smaller ones) that they will choose to demonstrate learning in a content area.

Reflection: In reflection, I feel that this lesson is beneficial because it is a flexible and

creative way for students to demonstrate knowledge. The pupils get to lead their

learning.
