Nature of mathematica

As an individual living in this kind of chaotic world, there is always  a confusion in

a lot of things it includes about  mathematics. Human mind has developed  thoughts

about mathematics as a recognizing, classifying and exploiting pattern. By using

Mathematics to organize and systematize our ideas about  patterns.  I learned in this

chapter that even though you don’t have any training about mathematics you can also

see the beauty of its nature. By reasoning and applying logical conclusions about things

we can see the beauty of it. However, it is just a simple interpretation of people about

mathematics. Mathematics has a lot of things that every human kind needs to

understand. There is a different beauty of mathematics, it’s about “applying to ideas

rather than things”. In mathematics there are alot of patterns, it just depends on a

person  on how deep they  can view it.It’s really true that we are still learning about the

beauty underlying in the world of mathematics, actually there are already two types of

patterns that  humanity is explicitly aware of and these are the fractals and chaos. We

already know that mathematics is about numbers and the simplest natures of patterns

are numerical. In this chapter stated that numerology is the easiest yet the most

dangerous method for finding patterns. It is because anybody can do it, and it is

dangerous for the same reason. I learned that even though numbers are the simplest

way we use by seeking patterns we further encounter difficulties by using it because it

generates millions of accidents for each universal. There are a lot of numbers and

sometimes because of complicated lists of numbers we become weaker.Patterns are

universal because by seeking patterns it can help us to answer the theory in our minds.

Mathematics is our way to unlock the mystery behind some patterns. Through this we

determine the meaning of each pattern. The way I see it, patterns are everywhere,

every action we do, every color we see and every thing we touch has a pattern. And by

the use of mathematics it helps us to deepen  its beauty.

Mathematics has a big contribution to our daily living. We use mathematics as a

tool for deciding things and it helps us to solve puzzles in our minds. Through the use of

mathematics we are digging out the rules and structures that lie behind some observed

patterns. Mathematicians found a totally different set of questions to ask, they spent a

long time grappling with what “rate of change” really means. In the book of Ian Stewart

chapter 2, I learned that with the use of mathematics like calculus we always come up

with new questions that lead us to  new ideas. This mathematics is very useful because

mathematics helps us in a  lot of aspects in our daily living in this world. Without the use

of mathematics we would never find the answer. Like for example in this kind of

pandemic we need a vaccine to prevent the virus called covid19 so in finding a solution

to this problem of course some scientists need to use mathematics for the calculation.

Whatever the reasons, mathematics is provided to help us with everything but some

people don’t see this because they don’t care about mathematics. By the use of

mathematics we can simply make a prediction, in some cases we need to truly

understand what mathematics is, for us to not just be an observer. Our world is not

static, there is always a change so we better do something in order for us to live. I think

mathematics are tools we need in our life in order for us to organize things. Without

mathematics there’s no  beauty in this world.

All is changing, there is no permanent in this world, according to a Greek

philosopher Heraclitus “You can’t step into the same river twice”. So we need to find a

way to step back from these opposing worldviews. In the way I see it, It’s just like

mathematics because mathematics always has changes in nature. There is a technique

that calculus provides which nowadays is called integration, that allows us to move from

knowledge of acceleration at any instant to knowledge of velocity at any instant. By

repeating the same trick, we can obtain new knowledge as position at any instant. I

learned that calculus is a mathematical scheme invented to handle questions about

rates of change. And in particular it provides a technique for finding the rate of change,

a technique known as differentiation and integration is the technique for undoing the

effect of differentiation.

Mathematics is not all about numbers. Rather, it is more about reasoning. In this

book Stewart stated that numbers are just one type of object and just a tiny part of

mathematics. It is the simplest form of mathematics.  In mathematics the important idea

was the concept of a new kind of number. Mathematics  also tells a story. In this book of

Ian Stewart chapter 5 entitled “from violins to videos” ‘deals with a case history of just

such a development whose most powerful application is television that arguably has

changed our world more than any other. As I can read the violin string vibrates it gave

rise to formulate equations which turned out to be useful in mapping electricity through

this the invention of radio, TV and many more arise. A lot of physicists and

mathematicians played a role in cracking the 1d wave equation of a violin string. jean le

rond d’alembert , euler, bernoulli all were instrumental in bringing about the solution for

1d waves. This was extended to the vibrations of the surface of the drum which is a 2d.
Finally it showed up in the areas of Electricity and Magnetism. Michael Faraday and

subsequently Maxwell came up with electromagnetic forces  which was a giant leap in

the advancement of scientific understanding.  Visible electromagnetic waves with

different frequencies produce different colors.

Field and Golubitsky describe how a chaotic process eventually can lead to

symmetric patterns (in a river, for instance, photographs of the turbulent movement of

eddies, taken over time, often reveal patterns on average) and they provide clear

explanations of the science that lies behind the generation of these pictures. And the

images they generate are spectacular. Because of the symmetry, these full-color and

black-and-white images--some chaotic and some fractal--have a surprisingly classical

appearance. Indeed, through comparisons with pictures from nature, such as sea shells

and flowers, and decorative designs ranging from Islamic motifs to contemporary

graphic logos to ceramic tiles, the authors highlight the familiar yet unusual nature of

these mysterious pictures. One of the most familiar symmetric forms is the one inside

which you spend your life. As an individual there is a part in our mind that is attracted to

symmetry according to this chapter 6 entitled the Broken Symmetry that symmetry

appears to our usual sense of beauty. Our minds are attracted to surprises so we often

consider imperfect symmetry. There are many different kinds of symmetry and the most

important ones are the reflections, rotations, and translation. I think symmetry is a

mathematical concept which allows us to bring in  different types of patterns, and it also

helps us configure and understand  where  the pattern comes  from and how it changes.

In the chapter the rhythm of life stated that Nature is nothing if not rhythmic, and

its rhythms are many and varied. Our hearts and lungs follow rhythmic cycles whose
timing is adapted to our body’s needs. Many of nature’s rhythms are like the heartbeat:

they take care of themselves, “running in the background” others are like breathing:

there is a simple default pattern that operates as long as nothing unusual is happening.

Most of this chapter is about gait analysis, a branch of mathematical biology that grew

up around the questions. Mathematics can illuminate many aspects of nature that we do

not normally think of as being mathematical. Mathematics is present in everything we do

so meaning that this is part of our life just us people is the problem because sometimes

some of us don’t care about the happenings in our surroundings. We don’t care about

others because we tend to focus more on the things about us.

Mathematics is a great thing that brought us  a long way to run. Number is just

one of an enormous variety of mathematical qualities that can help us understand the

growth of the tree or the dunes in the desert if we try to reduce all of nature’s freedom to

restrictive numerical schemes. Because of the development of mathematics theories it’s

a great help to reveal the natures in patterns. Mathematics may be hard but there’s a lot

of lessons behind mathematics. Stewart helps us to see the world of mathematics

through his book. In this book by Ian Stewart I have learned that mathematics has

played an important role in our daily life, everything that we encounter has a nature of

mathematics. He delved deeper more the meaning of mathematics just not by giving its

meaning but also by giving different kinds of examples and clues which can lead   us to

a deeper understanding about the beauty of it.
