JOURNAL #9, BF CHAPTER 11

In the chapter 11 of Beyond Feelings, it explains the “Errors of Expression” that obstructs

the ability to think critically. It discusses 6 fallacies wherein people have the tendency to fall

within these errors.

Circular arguments and meaningless statement are included as the fallacies. Circular

argument happens when a person argues in a circle when he repeats statement in different forms

but has the same meaning and meaningless statement is the explanation without sense. Last time

I’ve experience circular arguments was when I was rushing one of my essays last semester, in

order to comply with the required pages, I was putting same arguments without support. I have

encountered meaningless statement error when I talk with drank friends, they have arguments

regarding different topics such as politics and religion without proper support and evidence.

It is essential to recognize such argumentative fallacies in order to prevent being

victimized by these errors. Although it is normal commit these kinds of errors, it should be

prevented to have an unbiased argument, considering that critical thinking is imperative to come

up with an argument, reasoning, and judgment which are properly evaluated and analyzed.
