ENGAGE WITH THE CHICAGO COMMUNITY

Learn about civic engagement and discuss what it means to be an active community member

Chicago, Illinois - (June 20, 2020) The Harris Theater for Music and Dance and the
Chicago Humanities Festival will host the Community Engagement Festival, an event presenting
speakers and performers who will raise questions about civil philanthropy and show their pride
as community members through their talents. Artistic director, Madalyn Robbins, says the event
will “spark important conversation and empower the public.”
This festival was created to give active members of the community a platform to discuss
issues and how they can be solved. For music lovers, local performers will show their
community pride through their art. The festival will include panel discussions from speakers
such as Claudia Rankine, Roxane Gay and Maria Hinojosa as well as musical preformances by
Anthony McGill and many others. Roxane Gay will discuss her role in her community while
instilling that “To be responsible members of our communities is to not only appreciate good, but
to call out the bad.” This will be the first time The Harris Theater will open its doors to the public
for a free chance to engage with activists of our community. We have created an event that
appeals to all, whether you prefer voicing your thoughts on philanthropy or experiencing it
through artistic expression, the festival caters to you.
This event will provide seating on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 7;30pm at
the Harris Theater in Millennium Park. All attendees must enter through the main doors of the
Harris Theater and go through security check before entering the festival. Please arrive on time
as patrons will not gain entrance to the theater after 8;15pm.
The Harris Theater is eager to share this intimate experience with the Chicago
community and look forward to seeing a diverse group of individuals in attendance. Join us for
this special event if you are a community member looking to make a difference and support the
city of Chicago.
The Harris Theater is located in Millenium Park with the goal of hosting events that
provide opportunities to inform the community on social, political, and economic issues through
art and cultural events. Our performances and speaking events gather people with shared
passions together to create memorable experiences and learning opportunities. Visit
