THE HISTORY OF ‘THE DANCING MEN’

It all started with an idea by Wg Cdr Deepanjan Dey (H2 Batch), a dream of a full length feature
film by our very own AFMCites, a dream of creating the “AFMC Movie Productions”. With the
script of Sherlock Holmes in mind and the passion of creating history, the process of movie
making started. The first task was to choose an Assistant Director and the best man for the job
was Med Cdt Deepak Nagpal (Z2 Batch), Secretary MedCine Club. By an extremely tough
process , 8 “lucky” cadets got an opportunity to act in the movie along with Wg Cdr Dey. The
story chosen was ‘The Dancing Men’. With three brilliant minds behind the cameras the movie
shooting kicked off in the boys’ hostel. With few shots filmed in the hostel, the next big task was
to find a location for rest of the movie. Then, there was the entry of our saviour, Lt Col
Madhusudan Dey, who offered his house as an alternate shooting location. After a multitude of
takes and retakes, finally the shooting was complete. But the toughtest job was still ahead of us.
The dubbing for the filmed parts had to be done. With latest equipment and software and a whole
week of dedicated effort, the voices of the nine movie stars involved were recorded. The movie
was now screened at the Dhanvantri Auditorium, with all the officers and cadets in attendance.
Barring a few technical glitches, the movie is now a part of history as the first endogenous
production of AFMC. The applause of the audience was a tribute to all the efforts we put in,
making our movie a resounding success. And yet again, AFMC served as a platform, to shape
our dreams into reality.
