Project three – film

_________________________________________________________

My third project was based on film, this project involved researching into the development and principles of
editing as well as camera movements and cuts in editing. It also involved producing samples of shot types,
camera movements and various shoots, using software such as photoshop and premiere pro.

I have learnt how to produce a high-quality film by using various tools such as colour grading, green screen and
cuts in premiere pro. Some of the techniques I have used include using a green screen, learning how to colour
grade film clips and premiere pro editing. Most of these skills were now familiar to me thanks to previous projects
however I found colour grading quite challenging at first.

Robert Richardson has been one of the artists/film makers I have found inspiration from. His use of lighting in
shutter island has taught me to experiment more with lighting and how different lighting set ups can be used to
convey different moods or messages. For example, my shutter island inspired shoot allowed me to present
feelings of mystery and intensity

I believe the camera movements task worked well for me as I was able produce clips that were smooth and were
to a high standard quality wise. I enjoyed being able to create storyboards and have fun with creating a weird and
random advert storyline. One of the weaker parts of this project was the cuts in editing task. Although it was fun
to create, I wish that some cuts would’ve appeared more seamless such as my invisible and jump cut. One of the
problems I had during this project was learning how to colour grade film clips and correct exposures. In order to
overcome this challenge, I re-watched editing tutorials and eventually I was able to produce a colour graded film.
I also realised that when shooting I need to make sure my camera settings are adjusted when moving locations
to ensure correct exposure. In order to achieve the next grade, I believe I need to keep being consistent with my
work attitude and continuing to produce high quality work as well as listen to feedback given to me by my tutor.

I believe this project has been successful as I have learnt a lot of practical and technical skills from it that I will go
on to use in my next projects. I have also enjoyed this project and I am happy with the work I have been able to
produce by myself and with others in my class.
