Student A Background Project

Student A is a musical excelling senior female student. Student A is an active participant

in the music department singing in both the top treble ensemble, Bella Voce and the top after

school mixed Vocal Ensemble. She is also a participant in the choral departments Broadway

Cabaret night and member of the acapella group at school.

Student A excels in music, she plans to continue her education in musical theatre. Student

A has excellent sight reading, audiation and literacy skills. She is an active leader within classes,

completing assignments on time and acting as a section leader during classes. Due to her

excelling within class it is important that as her educator we keep her engaged by giving her

challenging assignments and maintaining her attention.

There are many ways to keep an excelling student engaged during classes. One way is to

give them leadership opportunities. My teacher has done this by selecting Student A as the

soprano 1 section leader in the Vocal Ensemble. As section leader she is responsible for leading

sectional rehearsals, learning her part early and assisting teaching the vocal part to her peers. She

also helps the teacher by giving feedback on how rehearsals are going.

Another way to keep advanced students engaged is by having them work on harder

repertoire and assignments. Student A has the option during sight singing assignments to make

her sight singing levels harder. When selecting repertoire for the cabaret night we must keep in

mind her skill and select a piece a bit more challenging for her. Providing students with

additional opportunities will also assist in engagement. During class this week we have given
students information on auditioning for the district choir and the senior honors choir. These are

extracurricular activities that will provide Student A with more advanced repertoire.

It is important to give Student A different opportunities to continue her growth as a

musician. As her teachers we have done that through extra leadership opportunities, challenging

literature and extracurricular activities.
