Boeing is one of the world’s leading aerospace companies, manufacturing commercial jetliners,
defense, and space and security systems. The company was founded by William Boeing in 1916
in Seattle, Washington.
In 1997, Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas, which was a leading military aircraft
manufacturer at the time in America. This strategic move, resulted in making Boeing the
World’s largest aerospace enterprise. Upon acquisition, Boeing’s chairmain and CEO Philip
Condit remained in his position whilst Harry Stonecipher who was the former CEO of McDonell
Douglas, took over as the president and COO of the company.
In 2017, Boeing was ranked 24 th on the “Fortune 500” list published by the Fortune Magazine
and also ranked 19th on “World’s Most Admired Companies” list in 2018.
The company currently caters to 3 main market segments, Commercial Airplanes, Defense,
Space and Security whilst positioning themselves as a provider of unparalleled aftermarket
support for mixed fleets worldwide via Boeing Global Services.
