Gulliver’s Travels Drama Script

Father: I am sending you to Emanuel College in Cambridge where you will reside three years,
and applied yourself close to your studies.

Lemuel Gulliver: But the charge of maintaining me, although I have a very scanty allowance,
being too great for a narrow fortune

Father: You’re the third of five sons, Gulliver. So, you’ll bound apprentice to Mr. James Bates,
an eminent surgeon in London, with whom you will continue four years.

Four Years Later:

Lemuel Gulliver: My father now and then sending me small sums of money, I laid them out in
learning navigation, and other parts of the mathematics, useful to those who intend to travel,
as I always believed it would be some time or other, my fortune to do. (Soliloquy)

(Leyden: there Gulliver studied physic two years and seven months, knowing it would be useful
in long voyages. Mr. Bates, Gulliver’s master, encouraged him, and by him he was
recommended to several patients)
