Materials: Students will need a writing utensil, Chromebook, and Classroom Journal. Instructor will need a computer, internet, and Kahoot!.
Technology Teacher: Computer, internet, and Kahoot!.
Integration: Student: Writing utensils and Chromebook.

Class Background
List three things you have learned about your students that will assist you in planning and implementing this lesson.

What you learned: Many of the students play competitive sports.

How it will influence your lesson: Kahoot! was chosen to help tap into that competitive nature in students and motivate them
while giving them a review for the final assessment.
What you learned: A few students' reading level is below their grade level.

How it will influence your lesson: Adding group review before the Kahhot! is meant to help students move toward a better
understanding of the material and to help clear up questions before the Kahoot!
What you learned: Many of the students play team sports or have an interest in team video games.

How it will influence your lesson: I took care to create groups that would have the optimal alignment of skill level; pairing lower
level students with higher level ones to insure understanding through the use of their teamwork.

Adaptations
English Learner
Student Description Native Korean speaker is able to communicate verbally well, but still struggles with writing
more complex sentences.
Instructional adaptation(s) based This student is placed in a group with a strong reader to help navigate any complex reading. The
on the strengths and needs of the final assessment will have sentence frames to help guide the students writing for optimal clarity
student and expression of their ideas.
Rationale for adaptation(s) The group is to help trigger the students BICS while working together, while the sentence
frames were chosen to both help articulate the students ideas and lower their affective filter
while taking a short answer assessment.

Student who presents a different instructional challenge or from an underserved population

Student Description The student shows signs of being on the neurodiverse spectrum leaning toward ADHD with their activity
level in class. The student is constantly moving around in their seat, has limited attention span, and often
has off topic conversations and questions.
Instructional adaptation(s) based Physical transitions between each activity will be implemented into the lesson. The Kahoot! is a
on the strengths and needs of the fun class review activity.
student
Rationale for adaptation(s) The time limit is to help this student stay on task and organized with regards to time. The
transitions are meant to help the student exert physical energy in between activities. The
Kahoot! is one of this particular students favorite review activities and will also help engage
them in the review for the final assessment.

Instructional Plan
Activating Background Knowledge

Instructional Strategies Students will follow the established routine of entering the classroom and copying down the learning objective into their classroom
journal. Students will then follow the established routine of group review for Kahoot! by getting into their preassigned groups and review
for their Kahoot! and final assessment.
Informal Assessment Instructor will be walking a figure eight around the class and listening for student engagement and understanding of the material with
verbal intervention if needed. The instructor will also take bullet point notes on student participation.
Rationale for Decisions The decision to have students review material before the Kahoot! review is intended to scaffold the assessment and activate background
knowledge in a less stressful setting. Students are also paired to ensure that lower performers are with high performers in an effort to raise
the understanding of lower level students while engaging higher level students in the activity.

Instructional Input

Instructional Strategies Students will follow the established routine of the Kahoot! review game. Students will take out their assigned chromebooks and login to
Kahoot! and prepare for the whole class review. The Kahoot! will contain fifthteen questions about the Scientific Revolution designed to
prepare students for their final assessment of the unit. The top three scorers will receive their prize of G-bucks and “class title” i.e. Lord
Mark, or Queen Sara, before moving to the final assessment.
Informal Assessment The Kahoot! will serve as the informal assessment, giving a list of right and wrong answers that the instructor will review at a later date to
inform future lesson plan designs.
Rationale for Decisions The Kahoot! review is a class favorite and is a fun way to review for the final assessment. Several students are also know to be
competitive and thrive in activities with stakes involved, like Kahoot!
Reflection (Completed
after the lesson)
Closure
Instructional Strategies Students will follow the established routine of breaking out of groups, moving to their assigned seats, and logging into Google classroom.
Once in Google classroom, students will begin the final assessment of three short answer questions. Students will be provided sentence
frames and be able to use their word walls for the test. Once complete students will submit the quiz through Google classroom and put
their assigned chromebooks in its assigned spot in the chromechart.
Formal Assessment The Google quiz containing three short answer questions about the Scientific Revolution.

Rationale for Decisions The Google quiz format was chosen because the results from the test can more easily be imputed into the students performance
spreadsheet. This spreadsheet data contains each student's progress in the class to help inform future lesson designing. The sentence
frames and word walls were chosen to help scaffold the test for ELs and struggling students, while lowering the affective filter of the all
students.

Rationale
1. What is the underlying The underlying theoretical base for this lesson is the information processing theory. Students

lesson decisions? Kahoot!. The Kahoot! connects with students in a more meaningful way because this class likes
whenever we do a Kahoot!. The word walls and sentence frames were chosen to lower the
cognitive load of students to allow the brain to focus on the learning/assessment.
2. Explain how the learning plan Kahoot! and group review was chosen to connect with students' social and emotional needs of

3. Explain how your choice of Kahoot! is an established resource that students find engaging and fun. The Kahoot! allows for
technology supported the students to review key concepts of the Scientific Revolution in a fun and competitive way. Many
learning goals and student of the students in this class play a competitive sport or game of some kind and the Kahoot! taps

classroom turn in of the final assessment is meant to help better organize results of assessments
and ensure students have easy and quick access to their grade and ability. The Google quiz in
particular, allows for the instructor to give feedback on student assessments quickly and students
have access even if they are not at school on the day the assessment tis returned.
4. How are you going to know The Kahoot! and the instructor listening for student’s voices will serve as diagnostics for student
that students are actively engagement. The Kahoot! shows the scores of every student in a graph for each question, which

During the whole class period the instructor will be listening for student voices and engagement,
mostly in the group review at the start of class.
5. What procedures and routines Entry routine, retrieving and returning chromebooks, group review, Kahoot! game, getting into
are needed for student and breaking out of groups, and submitting work on Google classroom, are all established
activities and materials? classroom routines that will be needed for the activities and materials involved in this lesson.
6. Describe how the lesson The use of the word walls, sentence frames, and group review were all designed to help support

assessment and allowing them to focus on their ideas rather than trying to remember how to write
their ideas in an academic way. The group review is meant to help students recall what they
learned in a safe setting before moving on to the more stressful setting of test taking.
7. Describe how the lesson The lesson is reviewing content information as a group and then in a game. This is meant to
