Learn the meaning of conflict and resolution, then demonstrate understanding and showcase strategies for conflict resolution. ASSESSMENTS (How I will know students have achieved the objective(s)) Formative assessment through class discussion, class activity and personal worksheets on conflict resolution.
Prior to the Lesson MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
Cut out and glue ‘Conflicts’ and ‘Resolutions’ onto poster Poster, printouts, worksheets, post-its, pen, markers, paper, cut out the scenarios and glue them under ‘Conflicts’ scissors, glue Have worksheets printed PROCEDURE Introduction Time - Have your students silent for 10 seconds before you begin - Script: I want you to picture a time you disagreed with someone. Maybe you both wanted to play with a toy, or someone cut in line. These things happen all the time, and it’s very important we know how to handle them! Does anyone know what a conflict is? (When people disagree about something) A resolution 10 mins is the way people decide how to fix a conflict. - Go through each scenario under ‘Conflicts’ one by one, asking the students for ways to solve them. Write the solutions on post-its and stick them next to the conflict Body Time - Script: Those were some wonderful resolutions everyone! Now I want you to think of a conflict you have had and how you solved it. - Give the students time to think by passing out the worksheets - Tell the students how to create the flap book (cut the dotted line, fold vertically along the solid line) and 15 mins write their names on it - Have your students write about a conflict they had and how they resolved it in the appropriate place on their work sheet - Any extra time may be filled with coloring Closure Time - Have your students clean up and stack their chairs in preparation for home time 5 mins
