INSTALLATION, OPERATION, AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
1.) GENERAL FUNCTION AND DESCRIPTION
+The funtion ofthe KB-30A Horn shat o high powered marine duty speaker, Asan
Eeetronic Horn/Hailing system for marie use the KB-30A horn signal produced i in
excess of 130 dB (1/3 Octave Band) @ | Meera 695 Hz, a required by IMO
‘Regulations for vessels up to 75 meters in length. Horn signals can te controlled by
simple push bution (sold separately), of by any automsted Kahlenberg Sound and Light
‘gna contol suchas model M-512, M-522, or M611 for automated enol o signals in
‘maneuvering, ested visibility, and emergency situations.
‘+ The KB-30A Horn system includes a speaker/micropbone fo serve as a voice amplifier
(aie) providing two way communications between those onthe exer ofthe vessel
and the interior helm station. Voice and auxiliary output rom the hom ranges from 110
1120 dB(A) at | meter depending on volume of input atthe microphone.
'+ The KB-30A consist of two major components: the KB-30A Hor/Driver Unit, and the
{CM-14 Control Module which provides the amplified hoen and voces

M14 Control Mod
“The CM-14 Control Module must be installed in a protected interior space typically behind the
‘contol or elm station console, Be sure to mount the CM-I4 within 6 fee of the cesired
location of the speakermicrophone. The mounting Mange accepts” (6mm) diameter fasteners

The PS4I-06 Microphone extension cord is color coded, and includes 1 insulated spade
teminl connectors for connestion tothe CM-I4 Module. See wiring diagram 3908 for
‘conection. The other end of his extension cord inludesa marine grade bulkhead fiting to be
installed in the console fr conection othe speakelmicrophone. The bulkhead console iting
requiresa 5/8” (155mm) hole, and will sccept console thickness up to 1/8" (32ma). Itshould.
tbe mounted at location that allows the microphone cord to easly extend tothe operators
Position athe helm,
The PS61-04 Mounting Bracket secures the speaker microphone tothe console. I requires two
20° (Sm) holes and fasteners for mounting to the console. It shouldbe located within easy
reach of the operator atthe helm.
KB.30A Hora/Driver
+The KB-30A HomDriver Unit shouldbe installed facing forward onthe vessel (required
by IMO Roles) at location a high as posible to avoid obstructions ta souxd ouput
“Two fender washers, item 34, Dw. 346730 are provided fr use with 3/8" (0mm)
fasteners (not supplied) to distribute load onthe mounting bracket,
‘+ dealy the hor shoul be installed in location where it wil nat receive excesive
amounts of saltwater spray
‘+ The horn should be installed level to the waterline to ensure proper drainage.
Insfaling the horn at an angle facing up, or down towacd the deck is net
recommended.
+ Thereisa drain hole on the bottom ofthe center cone on the KB-30A. This hole
should always be located in a6 o'clock position down toward the deck ‘or drainage.
Ir the hom is tobe mounted upside down, loosen the mounting bracket fll position it

* Decibel levels from the horn output should not exceed 110 dB(A) at manned crew
positions

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION DETAILS: IMPORTANT!
‘THE ENTIRE $0 FT (15 METERS) OF SUPPLIED 16AWG (2x 1.3mm) MARINE,
‘CABLE MUST BE INSTALLED BETWEEN THE KB-30A HORN AND CM-14
CONTROL MODULE.
USE OF WIRE LARGER IN DIAMETER OR SHORTER IN LENGTH CAN CAUSE.
PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE HORN. USE OF WIRE SMALLERIN DIAMETER
OR LONGER IN LENGTH WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF HORN OUTPUT.
FOR INSTALLATIONS WHERE MORE THAN 15 METERS OF CABLE ARE
NEEDED, CONSULT KAHLENBERG INDUSTRIES FOR SPECIFIC WIRE
DIAMETER REQUIRED.
*°NOTE: Once power is connected tothe KB-30A, low level white note wil be produced
by the horn speaker. ‘This is normal and i the sound of low level current x the horn used
to heat the driver to prevent condensation,

the exterior of the vessel, NOTE: The listen button is “maintained” button. You do not
‘eed to hold this button down while listening to replies. Once itis pressed and released,
You will hear activity from the exterior ofthe vessel. To deactivate the “listen” funetion,
‘A volume conto s located atthe top ofthe microphone to control “Listen” (Talktack) volume
shear through the microphone speaker.

Remote Speaker
If desired, a remote speaker (available separately) canbe installed in adition to the microphone
speak o heat “talkback”. Connect this remote speaker o terminals | and 2 on te CM-I4

‘rother similar device, This signal will be broadeast over the KB-30A Horn Speaer, but wll be
