Distance Sensor

GP2Y0A710K0F is a distance measuring sensor unit, composed of an integrated combination of

PSD (position sensitive detector), IRED (infrared emitting diode) and signal processing circuit. The
variety of the reflectivity of the object, the environmental temperature and the operating duration
are not influenced easily to the distance detection because of adopting the triangulation
method. This device outputs the voltage corresponding to the detection distance. So this sensor
can also be used as a proximity sensor

Features:
Long distance type
Distance measuring range : 100 to 550 cm
Analog output type
Package size: 58×17.6×22.5 mm
Consumption current : 30 mA
Supply voltage : 4.5 to 5.5 V

Experiment 1: Measure the distance and trigger the output

Figure 1

1. Refer to Figure 1 to formulate a program to produce linear output based on sensing

distance.
2. Trigger the PWM output based on the following condition:
a. If the distances are between 100 – 200 cm, PWM = 25 % duty cycle
b. If the distances are between 200 – 300 cm, PWM = 50 % duty cycle
c. If the distances are > 300 cm, PWM = 100 % duty cycle
3. Discuss how sharp distance sensor works and submit your report within 1 week.
