Instructions: In DC Connect, open the “Project 1 Starter” file and save as YourFirstName YourLastName Project 1, i.e.
“Karen Minacs Project 1”. Your job is to turn this starter file into an APA formatted paper using the attached guidelines
“Word APA Template.docx” and “APA Writing Style Sample Paper.pdf” as a reference. This paper must adhere to APA
guidelines using the correct margins, font, font size, line spacing, paragraph spacing and indent throughout (including
table of contents, anything in the header or footer and references!). For your convenience, the project starter file has many
areas highlighted to identify important parts of the document. Green highlight indicates a Level 1 Heading, Yellow
highlight indicates a Level 2 Heading and Blue highlight indicates bullets are required, Red highlight indicates where a
citation should go. All questions worth 1 mark unless indicated otherwise.
In addition to APA formatting, the following must be done
1. You must fix any obvious spelling and grammar errors in this paper.
2. This paper must have a title page that complies with APA guidelines. Refer to Lab 3 question 3 for details. The title of
the is paper is “Durham College Academic Policy: Project 1” {5 Marks}
3. You must CREATE a new style for both Heading Level 1 and Heading Level 2 that comply with APA guidelines.
Apply Heading Level 1 to Green and Heading Level 2 to Yellow paragraphs. Do NOT modify the existing Heading 1
and 2 styles. However, I would suggest that you use them to create your new styles. When naming the new styles use
the following “Your_Initials Heading L1”. For example, I would name my Heading Level 1 and 2 “KM Heading L1”
and “KM Heading L2”. Note: Remember that both Level 1 and 2 headings must be double spaced and have NO
paragraph spacing. Once all your headings are complete, please remove the highlight. {5 Marks}
4. Create a new style based on the normal style that complies with the standard paragraph of an APA paragraph. Name
this new style “Your_Initials Normal”. For example, I would name mine “KM Normal”. (I’m looking for line spacing
and indents but do NOT use any paragraph spacing). Apply this new style to all standard paragraphs of this paper.

5. Modify the Title style to match the title format on your Title Page.
6. Headers {3 Marks}
a. The left side of the first page header must contain “Running head: ADD TITLE IN CAPS HERE” and
subsequent pages left header will only be “ADD TITLE IN CAPS HERE” You will put in the correct title
name.
b. The right side of the header must have page numbers as per APA guidelines.
7. You must create a Table of Contents on its own page after the title page. Make sure the Table is updated prior to
submitting your project, its formatted as per APA and that it’s heading uses your Heading Level 1. {4 Marks}
8. Insert bullets wherever you see Blue highlight. Use the same type of bullets throughout. Prior to inserting bullets
please ensure the paragraph(s) have NO indent. Bullets must be double spaced and when all bullets are done, please
remove the highlight. {4 Marks}
9. Please add 2 references into the sources section using Word’s bibliography tool. The first source must be a book with
you as the author (include your middle name), published in 2018, Make up a title, City is Clarington and the publisher
is Rawlings Ltd. The second source will be a journal article with two authors. Make up whatever you want for the
authors names (including middle names for both), date, title, journal name and pages. {2 Marks}
10. Please add the 1st citation under the section “Breaches of Academic Integrity” after the red highlighted word
procedure. The 2nd citation will be added under the heading “Non Compliance Implications” after the word reputation.
Remove the red highlights when you are done and make sure you add your citations correctly! {3 Marks}
11. Create a bibliography (on the last blank page of the paper using the sources you created above. Make sure it is APA
format using the References template. Finally make sure the heading for your bibliography matches your newly
created Heading Level 1. {3 Marks}
12. The document adheres to ALL APA guidelines {3 Marks}
