Cultural Introduction: Introduce yourself in a cultural manner. Share about your ethnicity, race,
skin color, language, family, spiritual belief, sexual orientation, birth order, special
delicacies and cultural festival. Do not share about your job, occupation, degrees and
what do you do for a living.

I was born and grew up in the province of Masbate. It is a place, which all of you probably do
not know but it is located roughly at the center of the Philippine archipelago. We have this
Rodeo festival, portraying the livelihood of Masbateños and the highlight of the event; Cowboys
and bull riders perform stunts in horseback, livestock wrestling, casting down, load carrying, bull
riding and whipping, the two-person carambola, and other activities related to handling of the
livestock. The best thing about there is the food, beautiful white sand beaches, and its smiling
people. One of the sought out delicacy there is the carmelado, which is made of cow`s milk
mixed with sugar.

As you can see, I have a tan skin color and have known 4 languages, namely: Masbateño or
Minasbate, Illonggo , Cebuano and English. These languages are widely used by different places
comprising Masbate province. Despite of this language barrier, people there are still respective,
hospitable and best in “pakikisama”. These things are what Masbate could promise for.

My strength today is my family. We are raised by our parents to be a family-oriented one and
that no matter what, we got each other`s back. Being the fifth child in the family, I was taught
to respect elders, to wear used clothes of my elder sisters and to understand my family`s
decision. We are a catholic also. The whole family go to church every Sunday and every
Christmas and New Year`s eve, we are bound to celebrate it at our own home in the province.
That is our family tradition.

And those I mentioned above define me as a person. I am not here and who I am today if not
because of my family, personal experiences growing up, culture, traits, faith, and tradition. As
the famous words of Dr. jose Rizal: “He who does not know how to look back at where he came
from will never get to his destination."
