Basketball 101

3 seconds setup

Every coach players must know so that players in a 5 v 5 game can all be productive.

The reason why some players can score well is because they are allowed to implement their creativity in
order to take control of their defender.

Every player must be given at least 3 seconds setup before taking his shot. This setup is very important
to make sure that he is in control of what his defense can do before taking the shot.

I will never take a shot without knowing the tendency of my defender. I will make sure first that I'm in
control of what he can do in defense before taking the shot.

The training then is to make a quick setup to read the defender's tendency and react accordingly before
taking the shot.

Basketball Basic Strategy in Non-Professional League

Here is the general rule:

This is a game of rebounding and running the fast break. Whoever controls the rebound and make an
effective fastbreak has the highest chance of winning.

The second best option is the board. Whoever can hit that board with his shooting will probably win.

Why is that so?

1. Lack of equipment: Access to a training facility like that of Steph Curry is not available to all players.

Even assistants who can rebound and pass you the ball for training does not exist or players do not have
money to pay for them.

Plus, unlike in NBA, players do not have that privilege to memorize their shooting touch hours before
the game begin.

SHOOTING THE BALL is, therefore, not the primary option and may cause you the game. Unless
someone cannot really miss it due to luck.

2. Lack of training: Players in non-professional basketball do not really have a time to train as a team.

Varsity players are students and has a minimum time to practice the team play.

A group of friends does not really have a strategy, time to practice and build a team play.

Conclusion: In a non-professional basketball game, it is about the rebound, unguardable fast break
player, and shooting the ball using the board.
