Rhonda Byrne (born 1945 Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian television writer and

producer, best known for her New Thought books The Secret (based on a film she produced
of the same name) and its sequel The Power. She has also written The Magic.  Her latest
book is "The Hero"

In 2007 Byrne was featured in Time Magazine's list of 100 people who shape the world. She
gained mainstream popularity and commercial success after appearing on The Oprah Winfrey
Show Her philosophy is that believing will allow you to achieve your wishes and
dreams.

The Secret sold more than 19 million copies in more than 40 languages by the spring of
2007. As well as more than 2 million DVDs. The Secret book and film have grossed
$300 million.

Byrne has also been a producer for Sensing murder and has also worked on the Australian TV
series World's Greatest Commercials and Marry Me.

Byrne recently listed her home in Montecito, CA where she has lived since 2007.

Plot of the Story

The Secret is a self-help book about the power of positive thinking by Rhonda Byrne. The
book is based on a pseudo-scientific theory called the “law of attraction” – the principle that
“like attracts like.” Specifically, Byrne focuses on the idea that your dreams do in fact come
true – thinking about money and wealth will attract these very things, causing them to
manifest in your life. Likewise, fretting over a worst-case scenario will only cause your fears
to be realized. Hence the importance of positive thinking. There are no accidents and bad
luck. Instead Byrne writes, “Your life right now is a reflection of your past thoughts.”
Throughout the book, Byrne intersperses quotes from proponents of the law of attraction,
such as Jack Canfield, creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. These experts believe
the law to be supported by quantum physics, arguing that it is a law of nature like gravity.
According to Byrne, the mind is a magnet, emitting and receiving frequencies to and from the
Universe. Each thought sends out a signal, which is turn gathers similar frequencies – due to
the law of attraction – before returning back to you. In this fashion, your mind can bring you
anything you desire – dream of a new house, and somehow, someway, it will come to you.
On the flip side, dwelling on war and poverty will only perpetuate these evils. Byrne even
proposes that too much negative thinking can put you in the path of a natural disaster or
terrorist attack.
The rest of the book explores different methods of using the law of attraction to your
advantage. The primary technique is “ask, believe, and receive.” This process involves
imagining what you desire and pretending that you already have it. For example, Byrne
suggests filling out a fake check and pretending to buy all the things you’ve always wanted.
Doing so, she says, will make you wealthy.
Aphoristic and repetitive, the book does more than emphasize of importance of positive
thinking. Byrne argues that everything is controlled by your thoughts, even your health.
Food, she writes, only makes you gain weight because you believe it should. In the end, the
book is a hymn to the power of the mind. Whether you know it or not, your thoughts, Byrne
warns, will eventually come true.  

Character Sketch

John Assaraf: An international bestselling author who once lived on the streets, Assaraf
offers several quotes throughout the book. He has spent years researching quantum physics
and how it relates to the law of attraction.

Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith: One of the spiritual experts behind The Secret. He stepsin
when people claim The Secret goes against the teachings of the Bible or other major religious
books. Beckwith is the founder of the Agape International Spiritual Centre and has served on
spiritual panels next to major figures such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Bob Proctor: Author of the bestseller You Were Born Rich. Proctor teaches seminars on The
Secret, focusing on companies and organizations that use the law of attraction.

Wallace Wattles: An early 20th century American writer and leader of the “new thought”
movement, which proposes that "our mental states are carried forward into manifestation and
become our experience in daily living." Wattles wrote the book The Science of Getting Rich,
which introduced Byrnes to the idea of the law of attraction.

Jack Canfield: Co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Canfield says he used the
law of attraction to go from an $8,000-a-year salary to earning $1 million dollars in less than
a year.
 Critical analysis

Chapter 1:  The Secret Revealed

This chapter is the intro to the book.  It introduces the reader to several "experts" in the use of
the Law of Attraction. Apparently everyone knew about his except for us. The premise of this
chapter (and of the whole book) is that your thoughts attract other similar thoughts and
circumstances, therefore, your thoughts create your reality.  That is, if you think you have bad
luck you will have bad lunch and more of it. The good thing is that the opposite is also
true. Your thoughts send out a frequency to the universe and the universe responds to that
frequency by bringing to you more of the same. "Your thoughts become things".

Chapter 2:  The Secret Made Simple

The Law of Attraction is always there - just like the laws of gravity and other physical laws of
the universe.  Emotions are like your gauge that tells you how you are feeling, and
thinking. That is, even if you think that you are going to win the lottery, if your gut tells you
that the odds are against you, you will
not win.  That is, you have to believe, beyond any doubt that you will win.  If you don't "feel"
the confidence you are not there with your thoughts.   You have to feel good to know that you
are in the right frequency required.  If you are feeling bad, immediately make yourself feel
good by listening to your favourite
music, feeling thankful for something you already have, or emitting the strongest of feelings -
love.

Chapter 3:  How to Use the Secret

The Law of Attraction grants every wish you ask. There are 3 simple steps in the Creative
Process: ASK, BELIEVE, AND RECEIVE. Believing is an important part because if you
don't truly believe that you can get what you ask for, you won't emit the proper "frequency"
to the universe. It takes no time and no effort for the universe to respond to what you ask for.
Therefore, if you want money, it is just as easy for the Universe to give you 1 Million dollars
as it is to give you 1 dollar. However, it is wise to test out the law by asking for something
small at first and then go to the bigger items. This will build your confidence in your power
as well.
Chapter 4:  Powerful Processes

Expectation is a powerful force. Therefore, expect what you want, not what you don't want.
Gratitude is also a powerful force. By being grateful, you send out a more powerful signal to
the universe. Visualization also serves this purpose. The universe will then return the reality
as you saw it in your mind. This has been preached forever by past leaders. Make the Law of
Attraction a habit, not just a once-in-a-while thing. At the end of each day or at the beginning,
or both, review what you did not like and immediately focus on how to make things better.
This will change your frame of thinking and attract to you what you want.

Chapter 5:  The Secret to Money

the same principles apply to Money. Don't focus on lack of money or the many bills you get
daily. Focus instead on wealth, and plenty of it. You have to believe you already have it and
feel good about having it. You must tell yourself "I can afford that" instead of the popular "I
can't afford that!” Also, give money in order to get money. By doing this you are telling the
universe that you have plenty of money in your pocket. Therefore, you will attract more
money. Also, visualize checks arriving in your mailbox, as opposed to bills. Be positive and
proactive.

Chapter 6:  The Secret to Relationships

to attract relationships, make sure that your thoughts are positive on this subject. Also, make
sure to align all other non-verbal communications. That is, your thoughts, words, actions, and
surroundings. An example given in the book (of many) is to not park your car in the middle
of your driveway. This tells potential partners that you don't have room for their car. Instead,
part it to one side, thus allowing for the second vehicle :)
Treat yourself with Love and respect to attract the same. Love yourself first and the Law of
Attraction will send you more love. Also, focus on your partner's strengths not their
weaknesses. Appreciate the qualities of others. Be positive and believe in your power.

Chapter 7:  The Secret to Health

Patients get cured from believing that a pill will cure them. The placebo effect. That is, it's
not the medicine itself, but the thought that the medicine is effective is what counts. To have
good health, focus on good health. Laughter attracts joy, releases negativity and leads to
miraculous cures. I guess laughter is the best medicine. Disease is a mental state that is fed by
fear, and the constant reminder and talking about it. To prevent it or cure it, just turn your
thoughts to positive outcomes and health and eternal youth. Do not listen to society’s
negative messages about disease and aging. Avoid talking about disease or joining others
when they discuss diseases.
Chapter 8:  The Secret to the World

If you resist something, you will actually attract it. To change this, go within yourself and
emit a new signal with thoughts and feelings. Focus on trust, love, abundance, peace. Don't
focus on the negativity of our present world. Life is meant to be abundant, and THERE IS
ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE. Your thoughts and feelings will allow you to tap onto this
unlimited supply. Praise and bless everything and everyone. This will allow you to align with
the highest frequency available - LOVE.

Chapter 9:  The Secret to You

Everything is Energy - including you. Recall from Science class that "energy can neither be
created nor destroyed, it can only be transformed". You are a magnet and can attract
everything you want. The Universe emerges from thought. We are the creators of our destiny
and of the Universe. You have an unlimited supply of ideas. We are all connected and we are
all One. Always remember that what you want is only a thought away. Set yourself to the
same frequency as what you want by focusing on it as if it were an absolute fact.

Chapter 10:  The Secret to Life

You are the teacher who writes on your blackboard. All you need to do is feel good now. Use
your newly discovered power, and you will attract even more power. THE END.

My Opinion

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, this is a book that was given to me by a very good friend of
mine. I really loved and enjoyed reading because this book is full of words of wisdom. This is
now the secret of my life. It encouraged me to work hard and to continue my studies. I really
recommend this book. Every night when I’m reading it, it gives me hope and encouragement
that life is so simple and the key to success is within us. This book brings me love and joy to
my entire existence. This book contains secret to money, relationship, health and power.
Because of this book I became inspired to pursue all my dreams in life. As you learn “The
Secret” you will come to know how you can have, be, or do anything you want. You will
come to know who you really are. You will come to know the true magnificence that awaits
you in life. I cherish my friend for giving me such valuable book and also the author for
having that kind of book.

Conclusion:
‘The secret’ taking the power of positive thinking beyond the law of attraction in her latest
book. Whether you are looking for a little nudge to help seize the moment, fallow your
passion, or lead a more joyful life. Rhonda encourages us to take control of our feeling and
frequency so that we can become architects of our lives.
Rhonda focuses on the mental preparation needed to achieve our dream lives, but misses one
critical component that is hard work and she will write this maybe in her next book.
