TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
6.1.4 Detailed Technical Specification
6.1.4.1 General
Turbocharged, single-acting four-stroke diesel engine of the trunk piston type with a cylinder bore of
210mm and a stroke of 310mm. The crankshaft speed is 1,000rpm.
6.1.4.2 Fuels
The fuel system is designed to operate on the basis of the following fuel oil specifications based on
ISO 8217-2010.
Diesel fuel oil
The usability of DFO depends on its conformity with the key properties listed below;
Density at 15 ºC : < 900 kg/m3
Kinematic viscosity at 40 ºC : 2.0~11 mm2/s
Pour point, winter quality : < 0 ºC
Pour point, summer quality : < 6 ºC
Flash point (Pensky Martens) : > 60 ºC
Total sediment fraction : < 0.1% wt.
Water content : < 0.3% wt.
Sulphur content : < 2.0% wt.
Ash content : < 0.01% wt.
Coke residue (MCR) : < 0.3% wt.
Cetane number or cetane index : > 35
Hydrogen sulphide : < 2 mg/kg
Total acid number : < 0.5 mg KOH/g
Oxidation stability : < 25 g/m3
Lubricity (wear scar diameter) : < 520µm
6.1.4.3 Cylinder Head
The cylinder head is of cast iron with an integrated charge air receiver, made in one piece. It has a
bore-cooled thick walled bottom. It has a central bore for the fuel injection valve and 4 valve cross
flow design, with high flow coefficient. The valve pattern is turned about 20° to the axis and achieves
a certain intake swirl.
6.1.4.4 Valves
The valve spindles are made of heat-resistant material and the spindle seats are armoured with
welded-on hard metal. All valve spindles are fitted with valve rotators which turn the spindles each
time the valves are activated. The turning of the spindles ensures even temperature levels on the
valve discs and prevents deposits on the seating surfaces.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
6.1.4.5 Cylinder liner
The cylinder liners, made of special centrifugal cast iron, are encased by a nodular cast iron cooling
water jacket in the upper section. This is centered in the crankcase. The lower section of the cylinder
liner is guided in the crankcase. The so-called top land ring fits on the top of the cylinder liner.
6.1.4.6 Piston
The piston, which is oil-cooled and of the composite type, has a body made of nodular cast iron and
a crown made of forged deformation resistant steel. It is fitted with 2 compression rings and 1 oil
scraper ring in hardened ring grooves.
6.1.4.7 Turbocharging system
The turbocharger system of the engine, which is a constant pressure system, consists of an exhaust
gas receiver, a turbocharger, a charge air cooler and a charge air receiver.
The turbine wheel of the turbocharger is driven by the engine exhaust gas, and the turbine wheel
drives the turbocharger compressor, which is mounted on the common shaft. The compressor draws
air from outside through the air filters.
