4 – Reinforcement

Definition :
Improving soil quality and thus increasing structural stability
Geotextile function :
Increasing soil shear strength by providing bonding mechanism of the geotextile-soil system
Geotextile requirements :
 Mechanical
- Absorption of tensile stress through transformation of membrance tension and shear
force of the multilayer system
 Hydraulic
- Increase in stability through modified hydraulic boundary conditions
- Increase in stability through accelerated consolidation
 Long term performance
- No creep in the bonding system
- Chemically and decay resistant
Limitation of function :
For safety considerations, reinforcement functions with limitations of deformation according to “
Terre Armee” are not considered here for the highly deformable PPspun bonded geotextile
POLYFELT TS, due to unresearched influence factors, e.g, teasile strength-elongation
performance in soils under different confining pressures.
